The World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization saving lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. We are currently seeking to fill an intern position in the Communications, Advocacy and Marketing Division, based in Rome, Italy.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DIVISION
The Digital Unit oversees the majority of the external facing online communications for the global channels (WFP.org, Social Media, Freerice.com). The intern will work with the WFP.org team, which builds and manages the website – the de facto principal digital footprint for the organisation. This team's work includes leading and overseeing web design, global editor management and training, search engine optimization (SEO), managing ongoing development of the multilingual platform, and coordinating with cross-functional team members and stakeholders.
The Digital team is looking for a Web UX Research intern to help conduct user research on WFP’s corporate website, WFP.org. The intern will work cross-functionally with the product owner, digital designer, developers, editors, and data analysts to identify research needs and influence product development.
The candidate will be working on three main projects, providing strategic support to the WFP.org team: the analysis of the publications section of the website, mobile optimization, and the improvement of the WFP.org design system.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the direct supervision of the WFP.org Project Manager and UX Specialist, the candidate will perform the following duties:
- Provide support in developing a user research plan.
- Assist with executing research projects using mixed methods (both qualitative and quantitative). This includes help testing surveys, mapping user journeys, defining personas, and setting up user studies using tools like Hotjar and UsabilityHub.
- Co-analyze and synthesize research data and translate it into actionable items.
- Present research findings to the WFP.org team.
- Help identify and troubleshoot UX problems, particularly on mobile devices.
- Assist in improving the WFP.org patterns library by providing a description of the correct use cases for each design pattern.
- Complete other projects as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
To be considered for this internship with WFP, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate programme and have completed at least two years of the programme, or recently graduated (within six months prior to the application to the internship programme) in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors Engineering, Data science, Behavior Sciences or Psychology from a recognized university, and attended classes in the past 12 months?
- Proficient in English. Professional writing skills in English are necessary.
- Possess an analytical perspective and the ability to think in terms of journeys, user flows, and interface wireframes.
- Some experience with research methods, data collection, and analytical techniques.
- A research portfolio to showcase your research skills.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
- Effective written and verbal communication skills;
- Digitally savvy and knowledgeable about the influencer marketing industry (knowledge of purpose-driven influencer marketing is a plus);
- Deep understanding of social media platforms (Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Twitter, Facebook);
- Highly organized and detail-oriented;
- Proactive, strategic and able to work independently (including in a remote environment);
- Ability to multi-task and solve problems in a fast-paced environment;
- Ability to produce engaging materials to serve a number of different internal and external audiences;
- Creative, with the ability to quickly adapt and master new digital tools to create content and materials.
WORKING LANGUAGES
Working knowledge of English (proficiency/level C) is required.
SUPERVISION (Level/Methods of Supervision)
Under the direct supervision of the WFP.org Project Manager and UX Specialist, the incumbent will be provided with mentoring, guidance, and technical supervision. Performance planning and reviews as well as learning and development discussions will be elemental part of the supervision. With the support of a comprehensive induction package and assignment of a buddy/mentor, the intern will rapidly become a productive member of the team.
TRAINING COMPONENTS
Throughout their assignment WFP interns have access to an industry leading learning platform, weLearn. Depending on opportunities and availability of funds, he/she may participate in WFP workshops or seminars, as appropriate.

At the end of the assignment, the Intern should:
- Have developed an understanding of WFP’s mandate and work
- Be comfortable posting creative content on WFP’s social channels
- Have developed an understanding of BER’s outreach via the different communication channels
- Be familiar with the key advocacy asks of WFP in the current political environment

TERMS AND CONDITIONS:
- Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP up to the maximum amount of US$1000 per month depending on the duty station of assignment.
- WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, necessary visas and related costs.
- WFP will reimburse travel ticket for candidates who are nationals of developing countries and are pursuing their studies in their home country.
- WFP will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognised institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education.
- Candidates who bear any of the following relations to WFP staff members are not eligible to apply: sons, daughters, brothers or sisters.
