Shelter Technical Assistant-Nationals Only

NRC is implementing a Shelter Programme in the Zaatari/Azraq refugee Camps in Jordan, the project aim to support refugees in the camps to have improved coping strategies through the provision of adequate housing and support to their ability to meet their basic needs. The Shelter Technical Assistant / Construction Supervisor will be responsible toplan, execute, and manage several construction units/crews, to ensure workflow is adequate and up to the agreed standards, meeting deadlines and targets.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Role and responsibilities

These responsibilities shall be the same for all positions with the same title. The responsibilities shall be short and essential. Details belong in the Work- and Professional Development Plan.

  1. Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines.
  2. Assist a range of support with the implementation of the CC portfolio according to plan of action.
  3. Implements independently procedures and activities within own function or core competency as delegated
  4. Responsible for organizing and delivery of tasks in line with priorities and standards
  5. Develop and maintain knowledge of the specialist area of work in which technical assistance and support is being provided, in order to be most effective in supporting the team
  6. Use initiative in day to day problem solving in line with agreed procedures, priorities and standards for the area of work
  7. Prepare and develop status reports as required by management
  8. Ensure proper filing of documents
  9. Promote and share ideas for improvement in your area of expertise.

Specific responsibilities

These responsibilities shall be adapted to the particularities of the job location and context, phase of operation, strategic focus and type of program intervention. This section shall be revised whenever a new employee is hired or the context changes significantly.

  • Resolves engineering problems by collecting and analyzing information; researching, analyzing, adapting, and modifying engineering techniques; recommending solutions; preparing drawings, schematics, and diagrams; evaluating components, materials, and suppliers; resolving design integration issues; developing specifications and safety standards; performing installations.
  • Supervise and Keep records of all incentive labor working with the team with the description of the activities conducted, details of the incentive labor.
  • Conduct relevant assessments in the camp, including but not limited to caravan repairing assessment.
  • Following up with labors and making sure that all requested tasks are done based on the agreed specifications, requirements, quality, and on time.
  • Reporting work progress on daily, weekly or monthly basis as it will be agreed with the line manager based on the available workload and based on the nature of the given task.
  • Prepare detailed plans for project implementation and ensure follow up and updating of the plan during implementation.
  • Prepare materials dispatch form based on the designs and BoQs.
  • Reporting all challenges faced or expected to be faced during your work.
  • Other functions that might be assigned by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

Competencies

• Experience from working within technical expertise in a humanitarian/recovery context

. Knowledge and experience within a relevant administration, craft or technical field and ideally a relevant vocational qualification

• Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts

• Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities

• Some knowledge of English

Context/ Specific skills, knowledge and experience:

• B.A degree in engineering, Civil/Architectural/Mechanical/Electrical engineering.

• 1 year of experience
