ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The position reports to the Managing Director of the Farm to Market Alliance. Job holder will operate across an assigned area and work independently, using technical knowledge and experience, to analyse data and identify solutions for partnerships & programme activities. They will support process improvements and partnership opportunities, and programmatic alignment & synergies with FtMA’s Global Team, Country Teams, External Private/Public Sector Partners, NGOs, and Alliance Members.

JOB PURPOSE

This position provides operational advice to FtMA’s Managing Director, Country Teams, and Global Team which are based in Nairobi, Lusaka, Kigali and Dar Es Salaam. This role will also provide supervisory guidance to FtMA staff members based in the Global Team. Drive FtMA’s effective positioning with Members and partners to attract program and partnership support, resources, technical assistance and innovative solutions to advance the work of FtMA.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  • Contribute to formulation of FtMA-wide programme policies in line with both organisational,strategy and the practical realities of operating in the field; and/or translate programme policy into Regional/Country level practices. Developing programme guidance and implementation modalities and operations, to ensure a clear and strong connection between Global Team and Country Teams.
  • Facilitate partnership growth, by exploring opportunities to expand existing partnerships and scope of new partners, guided by assessments, analysis and due diligence; Present recommendations to senior management and ensure follow-up.
  • Provide advice and support to country operations on moderate to complex issues to clarify ambiguities and ensure that policy and programme operations are consistent with FtMA Business Plans, strategies, policies, Steering Committee decisions, and further advise on Human resource issues and other relevant matters.
  • Coordinate with counterparts from partners and other relevant stakeholders in identifying where FtMA activities can be usefully employed and provide support and technical expertise for the planning, formulation and implementation of FtMA programmes to promote capacity strengthening and resiliency building for farmers, and other relevant agricultural SME’s, stakeholders, and partners.
  • Establish and maintain operational partnerships to identify opportunities for collaborative approaches and initiatives that improve intervention packages and FtMA’s operational field work.
  • Mapping opportunities the FtMA Management Team in areas on partnership & programme.
  • Act as the focal person for FtMA’s Steering Committee; perform or source support for FtMA’s secretariat functions to it’s Steering Committee.
  • Supervise and lead the communications efforts and external communications from FtMA Global Team. Manage the preparation and dissemination of timely analytical and critical reports, publications, and a variety of information products or proposals for internal or external use.
  • Review and draft elements of donor reports, project proposals, internal reports, and other relevant publications.
  • Support resource mobilisation efforts for FtMA projects, including leading in the drafting of proposals, seeking out new funding opportunities, and liaising with the necessary counterparts to satisfy fundraising requirements.
  • Manage staff, providing coaching, training and guidance to ensure appropriate development and enable high performance.
  • Take responsibility for incorporating gender perspectives in all areas of work to ensure equal participation of women and men.
  • Contribute to preparedness actions, providing technical recommendations and guidance; Monitor defined risks and make recommendations how to manage these effectively.
  • Undertake fields missions to the FtMA Countries as required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND KEY REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

  • Advanced University in Political Science, International Development, Development Economics, International Relations, Law, Marketing, Communications or other relevant field, or First University Degree with additional years of related work experience and/or trainings/courses.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant progressively responsible experience in programme support, partnership engagement, project management, and staff support.

LANGUAGE:

  • Fluency (level C) in English language.

  • Has gained experience in using technology and digital tools for data collection, analysis and shared data-based insights to add value to all partnerships.
  • Has provided input into training and support strategy for technical systems users and provided advanced technical support.

  • Minimum five or more years of relevant professional work experience.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • A Limited Fixed-Term Appointment (LFT) position is a non-mobile staff appointment in the international professional category for a limited period of up to 1 year.
  • WFP offers an attractive compensation and benefits package in line with ICSC standards (http://icsc.un.org) including basic salary, post adjustment, relocation entitlement, visa, travel and shipment allowances, 30 days’ annual leave, home leave, an education grant for dependent children, a pension plan, and medical insurance.
  • The selected candidates will be required to relocate to Rome, Italy to take up this assignment.
