Education and Youth Advisor -Irbid
The “Promotion of Quality in Inclusive Education” project in Jordan is seeking an “Education and Youth Advisor” for full-time base employment as per the below job profile.
Job location: this position is based in Irbid.
The position holder should be living in Irbid and have the willingness to travel regularly and independently to Amman and to other field directorates.
Qualifications and specialist knowledge
- University Degree (Master’s or PhD) in Education, Pedagogy, Inclusive Education, Special Education, or other relevant degree
- In-depth knowledge of the Jordanian education system and a minimum of five years experience in the Education Sector in Jordan, particularly in coaching and mentoring, implementing school improvement programmes and/or inclusive education programmes
- 5 years of experience as a mainstream teacher or resource room teacher in the public school system in Jordan is desirable.
- Experience in writing high-quality project reports, research reports, proposals, and concept notes.
- Understanding of and experience in Development Cooperation projects is highly desirable.
- Research experience in an area related to the project’s remit is highly desirable.
- Experience in project management in a similar field is a plus.
- Very good knowledge of MS Office, particularly MS-Excel
- Fluent written and verbal knowledge of Arabic and English languages
- Flexibility, team player spirit, excellent communication, and interpersonal and intercultural skills are essential.
- Willingness to travel regularly and independently to Amman and to other Field Directorates
- Driving license is required.
Main activities
- Conducting regular school visits to pilot schools of the PROMISE project to provide technical advice and to coordinate the project’s activities with regards to Inclusive Education across its components
- Providing technical advice, capacity development, coaching, and mentoring support to Inclusive Education Support Teams (IEST) in schools and Field Directorate, as well as school staff to develop Inclusive Education School Action Plans and implement inclusive education.
- Proactively establishing and maintaining good relationships with the field directorate, pilot schools, parents, community, and other implementing partners of the PROMISE project
- Creating and maintaining databases to collect and store school-based data, interpreting and providing relevant information required for Results-Based Monitoring
- Strengthening the role of the field directorate IEST by working collaboratively and providing them with technical advice, mentoring, and coaching to develop their capacity.
- Conceptualising and supporting the set-up of Communities of Practices at the school cluster level and facilitating the sharing of lessons learned among schools.
- Supporting the coordination of inclusive education activities implemented through other implementing partners of the PROMISE project.
- Writing high-quality reports, terms of reference, proposals, concept notes, document case studies, success stories etc.
- Providing administrative, procurement, and logistical support for project activities across components
- Where appropriate and reasonable, the position holder is willing to perform tasks out-side the scope of the job description
Core tasks
In your role, you are responsible for the technical, substantive, and organisational implementation of a project’s measures and activities. In consultation with your line manager, you also assume tasks related to planning, steering, and monitoring the project, including project administration tasks in some cases. You are also responsible for providing specialist support to colleagues in bands 2 and 3, and ensuring the quality of the commission’s outcomes.
In addition, you contribute to the conceptual design of the project, in particular its modification or realignment.
You make technical and substantive contributions to overarching issues in cooperation with commissioning parties/clients, partners and other actors and thereby support the achievement of the agreed objectives of the respective project and provide impetus for further strategy development.
In coordination with the country director and your line manager, you also use your contacts for the acquisition of contracts on behalf of the company.
In consultation with your team colleagues and line manager, you also coordinate all issues within your area of work and ensure that they are dealt with promptly and competently. You resolve problems that arise in your area of responsibility on the basis of existing rules and draw attention to more complex challenges in your team.
You are involved in ongoing process development within your remit, are responsible for knowledge management and prepare and share documentation. If required, you also support other experts in familiarizing themselves with and performing their tasks.
You perform the tasks assigned to you by your line manager, where required.
About the project
The Promoting Quality in Inclusive Education (PROMISE) project, commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), supports the Government of Jordan in strengthening the foundations for developing an inclusive education system.
PROMISE contributes to the strengthening of capacities at national, district, and school levels, using learning experiences and good practices from pilot schools in six field directorates (Marka, Ajloun, Irbid, Tafilah, Aqaba and Karak) to implement inclusive education measures in other schools. The programme’s results will contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (especially SDG 3, 4, 5, 8, and 10). GIZ is implementing the project with the Jordanian Ministry of Education (MoE) as its main political partner, in cooperation with the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons of Disabilities (HCD) and other national and international partners.
