Senior System Administrator
Job Purpose
This position is responsible for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of our Linux systems. In this role, you will troubleshoot server errors, install new system hardware, respond to user issues, monitor the performance of the network, repair to ensures that system downtime and equipment inventory are properly maintained. Supervises operations staff including training & knowledge transfer on routine basis, guide and/or provide work direction to technical staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for developing new system (Linux associated) and implementation plans, creating custom scripts and testing procedures (Documented procedure to be referred) to ensure operational reliability.
- Responsible for training technical staff in how to use new software and hardware developed and/or acquired.
- Responsible for performing troubleshooting as required to leads problem-solving efforts often involving outside vendors (Plesk, Third lane, CISCO, Fortinet, EMC, OpenSIPs, Citrix) and other support personnel and/or organizations.
- Responsible for developing procedures (Documents to be referred), programs and documentation for backup and restoration of host operating systems and host-based applications (Documented Plan to be developed)
- Creating/Removing machines
- Maintaining machine
- Adding new machines to avamar backup environment
- Checking and troubleshooting backup issues
- Responsible for ensuring high availability (System Matrix with availability & Threshold to be prepared) and acceptable levels of performance.
- Responsible for staying current with technological developments in systems administration technology.
- Responsible for all activities related to voice services in the IT department for the SIP servers including the hosted PBXs.
- Responsible for all activities related to domain names, except KISR (.KW ctld).
- Responsible for all activities related to the web hosting services (Plesk) for internal and/or customer’s side.
- Responsible for all activities related to the mail hosting services (Plesk) for internal and/or customer’s side.
- Responsible for all activities related to the DNS services either Cache or Authoritative for internal and/or customer’s side.
- Responsible for all activities related to the mail secure gateway services for internal and/or customer’s side.
- Responsible for all activities related to the RADUIS (AAA) servers.
- Installing and upgrading Linux system software on company servers and computers.
- Design, implement, and evaluate current and future infrastructure initiatives for the highest level of efficiency and performance;
- Implementing network and computer system policies.
- Detecting and troubleshooting software and hardware issues.
- Responding to user requests and software errors.
- Monitoring the performance of the system and server.
- Setting up and monitoring security policies.
- Applying patches and upgrades when necessary.
Skills
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or any related fields
Knowledge:
- Previous experience as a Linux system administrator.
- Experience with, CloudStack, VMWare, Xen, Hyper-V.
- Experience managing MySQL databases.
- Experience with scripting (PHP, shell).
- Experience with SAN/NAS solutions (iSCSI,NFS,FC,FCoE.) is a plus.
- Experience working in a “high-availability” environment.
- Strong fundamental and deep technical knowledge of Linux OSs.
- Must be able to work in a fast paced environment.
- Hands-on experience with web servers such as Apache Web Server and mail servers such as Qmail, postfix, sendmail.
- Knowledge of networking principles including routing, subnets, TCP, IP, VLANs, and UDP.
- Understanding of backup procedures and storage management.
Experience:
5 – 8 years or more of experience in the same position or field.
