Brief description of the WFP Nordic Office:

The UN World Food Programme (WFP) Nordic Office in Copenhagen works to strategically position WFP an innovative leader in food security and nutrition with the Nordic governments, political stakeholders, foundations, private sector, academia and other partners in the Nordics The Office provides a strategic entry point to the Nordic governments – Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden – combined the 3rd largest overall government donor to WFP (2022) and top donors of flexible funding. Through proactive advocacy, effective positioning, trends analysis and engagement the office creates enabling environments to protect and further increase Nordic government funding, builds informed constituencies, and safeguards public support to strengthen resourcing and operational partnerships to maximize impact for a world with zero hunger.

  • Contract duration: 5 months with potentially an option for extension

Duties and responsibilities:

Under the strategic and operational guidance of the WFP Nordic Office Director, the Partnerships Officer will perform the following duties:

  1. Building on existing analysis, carry out a stakeholder mapping and analysis of political, government and other actors in the Nordics with the potential to impact WFP’s funding from and partnerships with the Nordics;
  2. Based on the stakeholder mapping and analysis, draft a new engagement plan for the Nordic Office;
  3. Provide analysis on donor trends, political environment, resourcing opportunities and potential risks to inform WFP’s positioning & advocacy with the Nordic countries;
  4. Identify and seek strategic collaboration with key Nordic stakeholders that can strengthen WFP’s brand
  5. Together with the WFP Partnership Department in HQ, advice WFP Country Offices and Regional Bureaus on funding and partnership opportunities with Nordic partners;
  6. Work with WFP partnership and communications officers in HQ and the field to ensure donor visibility for Nordic partners;
  7. Represent WFP at relevant meetings and events of relevance to the Nordic Office;
  8. Perform other related duties, as required.

Required qualifications and experience:

  • Education: Advanced University degree in Political Science, International Development, Business Administration, Marketing, Communications or other related fields; or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or training/courses.
  • Experience: Professional experience (5 – 10 years) in an international organization, political organization, NGO or marketing/consultancy firm. Experience in partnerships, communications and account management within a UN agency, particularly WFP, would be considered an advantage.

Required knowledge and skills:

  • Knowledge of the political dynamics and the development and humanitarian funding landscape in the Nordic countries;
  • Expertise in campaigning and fundraising from Nordic governments, foundations, private sector, individuals and other funding streams of relevance to WFP;
  • Excellent sales, marketing and communications skills to approach and cultivate partnerships and fundraising in a creative and entrepreneurial manner;
  • Excellent presentation skills and demonstrated social media management and communications campaign experience and capacity;
  • General knowledge of UN policies, rules, regulations and procedures is an asset;
  • Ability to work independently, plan strategically, as well as to organize, assess and coordinate the work of others;
  • Ability to work harmoniously with people of different national and cultural backgrounds, government officials, other UN agencies and multilateral institutions.

Languages:

  • Fluency in written and verbal communication in English required, with working knowledge of another UN language desirable. Working knowledge of Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish or Icelandic is an asset.

WFP offers a competitive compensation package which will be determined by the contract type and selected candidate’s qualifications and experience.
