Job Description

Gender equality and women’s empowerment are key to sustainable human development. Building resilient societies based on gender equality and respect for human rights are central to UNDP’s mandate to promote gender-responsive sustainable development. UNDP works closely with governments, national and sub-national institutions to support integration of gender-related concerns in their development agendas aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals. The RBAS Gender Team develops regional and sub-regional initiatives to advance gender equality and supports Country Offices (COs) in the Arab states region to deliver gender equality results aligned with the SDGs as part of their national programmes and policies and aligned with the Global Gender Strategy 2022-2025.
The selected candidate will contribute to the conceptualization, initiation and implementation of regional and sub-regional initiatives connected to implementation of the Regional Programme Gender Project Initiation Plan (PIP), contribute to the Gender Team’s role in providing support to the COs on gender policies and programming as well as collaborate with the wider regional programme and hub teams in other areas to ensure gender is integrated across all areas of work. As such the candidate would need to be familiar with the specific gender context in the Arab region and knowledgeable about potential cultural sensitivities and safety risks that could result from gender equality programme implementation and advocacy.
Duties And Responsibilities
Scope of Work

  • Contribute to the Implementation of the Regional Gender Action Plan 22-25 in line with the Gender Equality Strategy 2022-2025, namely the areas related to gender-inclusive economies.
  • Ensure the implementation of the gender Project Initiation Plan, providing substantive and operational support to components on gender inclusive economies, including the development of a regional proposal on the topic and connecting the work to related initaitves in RBAS.
  • Support the gender justice and the law work, for development of new ideas and proposals, especially that connect to socioeconomic rights and women and the economy.
  • Support the overall work of the regional team as needed in tasks such as providing technical advice and support to COs, developing TORs, concept notes, research papers, reports and training in the area of gender equality.
  • Liaise with country offices and regional teams on all aspects related to implementation of the PIP

Institutional Arrangement
The selected candidate will work under the direct supervision of the Gender Team Leader. The staff member will work in close collaboration with all RBAS teams, and relevant COs among the 17 countries in the region and the Gender Team at HQ.

Min. Years Of Relevant Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years’ experience in gender equality and gender mainstreaming in development programmes
Experience at the regional level is an advantage
Previous experience with UNDP or with other UN oranizations is an advantage
Required Skills

  • Deep understanding of current and emerging gender equality challenges and trends, and familiarity and demonstrated interest in understanding the Arab region’s context
  • Ability to provide technical advice and deliver training on gender analysis and mainstreaming in programming
  • Ability to work creatively and proactively to develop programmes, working across teams and sectoral approaches, especially in the areas of support to women’s employment, MSMEs and unpaid care work
  • Proven experience in organization of (online) international conferences and workshops
  • Proven analytical skills and ability to write concisely in English
  • Ability to promote individual and organizational learning and knowledge sharing using formal and informal methodologies
  • Ability to independently acquire organizational knowledge and build relationships
  • Perseverence and and independence and ability to see own work through to acceptable standards
