ACAPS
ACAPS is dedicated to improving analysis of humanitarian needs in complex emergencies and crises. We are independent of specific operational and sectoral agendas or interests, and we provide evidence-based analysis.
Our analysis team supports the humanitarian community by providing up-to-date information on more than 100 key crises around the globe. This enables crisis responders to better understand and thereby better address the needs of the affected population and strengthen the assessment ecosystem.
Purpose of the Data Collection Project
Support the ACAPS analysis by participating in the production of ACAPS data products through secondary data review and data collection. The ACAPS portfolio of dataset include a variety of products broadening from Severity Index to sector-specific datasets, aimed to inform the humanitarian community with global, up-to-date and ready-to-use humanitarian information.
Task and Responsibilities
Data Collection Coordination
- Manage the work of data collectors and ensure the quality of their work by providing feedback and directions and any other related line management task
- Support, design and conduct trainings to the data collectors to ensure the quality, efficiency and consistency of the data collection
- Ensure, in coordination with the Team Leader, that the staffing of the data collection team and the allocation of the necessary resources for a smooth functioning of the data collection process
- Supervise the data collection for ACAPS core products (INFORM Severity Index, Global Humanitarian Access, Global Risk) and ad hoc products
- Ensure the completeness of data collection
- Coordinate the review of all assessments, reports, and information products related to the ACAPS’ monitored crisis to understand the information landscape and current gaps
- Monitoring the data collectors daily work to identify risks and trends with potential humanitarian impact
Other
- Contribute towards learning and innovation
- Coordinate meetings and roundtables with counterparts, and follow up on implementation
- Any other tasks which may be agreed jointly may be added to the job description, as per the project needs.

Requirements and Qualifications
Formal education and background
- Master degree , or equivalent education, preferably in humanitarian action, social sciences, international relations, international development or related field.
Experience
- At least 1 year experience of working on humanitarian analysis products
- 2 years experience working in the humanitarian sector
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work in emergency and/or complex operations within a multi-cultural environment
Knowledge and skills
- In depth knowledge of secondary data review and desk review methods
- Knowledge of the humanitarian sector
- Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative analysis methods
- Understanding of information management cycle and data principles
- Excellent computer skills (Excel spreadsheets or similar essential)
- Very strong communications skills, both written and oral
- Fluent written and spoken English
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Proven skills in negotiations and ability to manage a team
- Proven ability to deliver against targets and meeting deadlines within a short timeframe
- Structured and focused, proven ability to manage time effectively
- Ability to receive and implement feedback
- Result oriented and problem solver

- R or Python knowledge is an asset
