Job Title: Child Protection Counsellor FSR # 407
Location: Two in Amman, Two in Irbid.
Job Summary:
Child Protection is the prevention of and response to abuse, neglect, exploitation and violence against children. Child Protection case management is the process of helping individual children and families through direct social-work-type support, and managing information well. Within child protection case management, there should be appropriate involvement of children throughout the process, as well as full consideration of the best interest of the child.
The position of Child Protection Counselor will be a counseling professional with a formal degree in psychology and or counseling. The position requires the Child Protection Counselor to work closely with the child protection case management team to support identified children and their families through counseling based intervention. The Child Protection Counselor will also run support groups for children with specific and common issues and protection concerns, as well as train Child Protection Case Managers to run support groups. In addition, the Child Protection Counselor will run parenting support classes, and will train staff and volunteers on a range of topics related to child protection, PSS and psychological support.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Where relevant, assist Child Protection Case Managers in initiating, developing and reviewing care plans for individual children, with participation from the child and their family, helping clients to define goals, plan action and gain insight
- Monitor on-going care plan implementation in relation to a child’s counseling needs, with special attention to identifying risk issues and communicating these issues to the allocated Child Protection Case Manager
- Provide counseling with the aim to improve the social and emotional functioning of children and their families, maximizing overall community well-being, encouraging clients to discuss emotions and experiences
- Examine issues including substance abuse, bullying, anger management, relationships, LGBTI issues, self-image and stress
- Offer specialized and direct therapeutic support for children with child protection concerns
- Provide group and individual counseling and guidance to children and their families
- Contribute to the case management file, including assessments, counseling plans and individual client progress
- Conduct intake and psychosocial assessments of clients
- Conduct review for appropriate utilization of services from case intake through to case closure
- Evaluate client satisfaction and quality of care provided
- Conduct psychosocial and awareness activities in IMC safe spaces and clinics
- Oversee the referral to specialized psychological service providers for higher level care and other services as needed.
- Support new hire orientation and training as required
- Assist and train case managers on support group techniques and evaluation
- Deliver training on Psychological First Aid, family counseling, psychosocial support and related topics
- Work in close collaboration with the child protection case management team
- Contribute to proposals and report writing of PSS activities when requested
- Provide regular updates and reports to senior management staff as required; contribute to donor reports and internal IMC reports as required
- Perform other job-related duties as requested by Supervisor
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor degree in psychology, counseling and Mental Health.
- Minimum two years of experience with at least 1 year in working with children.
- candidates must be resident in Amman or Irbid
- Experience in working with children by providing individual counseling sessions and group support.
- Excellent written in oral and communication skills in English and Arabic
