Midwife
Background
- Since 2007, IRC has worked with refugees and other vulnerable populations in Jordan. In Jordan, we focus on urban and camp interventions addressing health, protection, economic development, and early childhood development for Syrian refugees and host communities. IRC through its health program has been providing crucial Primary and Reproductive Health services to Syrian refugees and vulnerable host communities in Mafraq, Irbid and Zarqa governorates including both urban areas and refugee camps. The IRC has been providing Reproductive Health services in Azraq since October 2017 funded by UNFPA.
The Position
Under UNFPA- funded project, "Provision of Integrated Sexual and Reproductive Health and Gender-Based Violence Services in Azraq Camp." PI-SRH-GBV, the midwife will be responsible for providing crucial reproductive health services to the refugees at three reproductive health clinics in Azraq Refugee Camp, triage for the beneficiaries, provide ANC, PNC and family planning services, dispensing family planning methods (FPMs), and referring the cases to the other health facilities when needed. The position will be based in Azraq camp and directly report to the Senior RH and Referral Officer.
Key responsibilities
Major responsibilities
- Provide clinical care to women and adolescents for reproductive health problems.
- Provide advice, care, and support for women and their babies during antenatal and postnatal periods.
- Developing, assessing and evaluating individual program care.
- Identify high- risk cases and refer them to doctors and other secondary care facilities.
- Provide vaccination services to pregnant women as per MoH EPI guidelines for the prevention of vaccine-preventable diseases.
- Ensure that standard procedures for cold chain maintenance are followed for storage of the vaccines in the health facility.
- Arranging and providing health education on reproductive health issues.
- Providing counselling and advice to all patients related to reproductive health.
- Identifying GBV cases and refer it upon the protocols.
- Manage inventories of RH commodities in a professional and tidy manner ensuring accountability in collaboration withthe Senior RH and Referral Officer.
- Updating patient registration books and other related appointment information.
- Maintaining and reviewing patient records, charts, and other patient information relating to HIS.
- Maintaining patients confidentiality.
- Other duties as assigned by the direct supervisor.
Representation and Coordination
- Attend coordination, referral, CSMI and info session meetings conducted in the camp to represent IRC and share the progress and issues related to the referral of cases upon the request of the direct supervisor.
- Cooperate and coordinate with other health care providers in the camp to ensure the referrals of patients to appropriate health services.
Reporting:
- Daily clinic report
- Inventory of medication and FPMs monthly report
- MoH monthly logistic report
- Monthly inventory of all the clinics; items, furniture, merchandise, and materials.
Team Management
- Indirect supervision of the volunteers in the clinic.
Health Department development and networking:
- Supports the communication department in the monthly Jordan Staff newsletter, Videos newsletter, or where needed (providing talks, articles, videos and/or looking for appropriate speakers that can do so).
- Contribute to the new insights, generations, and innovative ways needed in the field as a priority set during the UNFPA Planning and Review Meeting in November 2022.

Indirect Reporting: SRH Specialist
Other Internal and/or external contacts:
Internal: Health Coordinator, IPC Specialist, SRH Community Specialist, Medical doctors and nurses.
External: MOH, UNHCR, UNFPA, IMC, and other health care providers in Azraq refugee camps.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor or diploma in midwifery.
- At least 1-3 years of working experience as a midwife.
- Flexible, professional, and have the ability to work in an ambitious environment.
Desirable:
- Experience working in camp settings
- Experience working with integrated protection and health programming
Working Environment: This position is based in Azraq and may require travel to Mafraq. The security situation in the IRC intervention areas is generally calm and the security department of IRC shares regular security updates to keep the management and staff informed about the new developments.
