THE ORGANIZATION & CONTEXT:

Médecins Sans Frontières is running a reconstructive surgery program in Amman, which opened in 2006, is giving access to reconstructive surgery (orthopedic, plastic and maxillo-facial) to war wounded people and providing comprehensive health care. MSF aims at identifying and referring patients from neighboring countries (Iraq, Yemen, Syria, and other countries with conflicts) then ensuring their medical follow-up after discharge.

Médecins Sans Frontières Reconstructive Surgery Hospital in Amman is therefore recruiting (1) Anesthesia Technician.

DIMENSON OF THE PROJECT:

• Reconstructive Surgery Hospital with in average 550 admissions per year,
• over 1000 surgeries annually,
• 72 surgical beds and 126 rehabilitation beds,
• 2 OTs for orthopaedic, maxillo-facial and plastic surgeries,
• OPD with in average 550 consultations / month
• physiotherapy and psychosocial department, and a micro laboratory within the hospital

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Organize and carry-out all nursing activities related to the operating theatre (OT) running, according to MSF health protocols, universal hygienic standards and in coordination with the surgeon and anesthetist, in order to ensure a smooth functioning of the surgical activities (pre, during and post-operative care) offered to patients.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES

• Prepares the drugs, the material and the equipment necessary for the accomplishment of the anesthesia.
• Assists with the induction and the maintenance of the anesthesia according to the technique chosen by the anesthesiologist, in compliance with the existing rules of hygiene.
• Assists with the continuous monitoring of the patient.
• Assists with the awakening of the patient.
• If needed, assists with transfer of the patient to and from the operating table
• Uses protective measures to avoid cross-infections.
• Understands that reusable and “single use only” anesthetic circuits (with the appropriate filtration devices) can be used for a complete operating session without being changed between each patient.
• Places always a bacterial/viral filter between the circuit and the catheter mount /airway device (patient end of the circuit).
• Discards used bacterial/viral filters after each case.
• Changes or cleans all medical devices in direct contact with the patient after each case.
• Understands that “Single Use Only” products are discarded, and multi-use products are cleaned and disinfected.

REQUIREMENETS:

Education & Training:

• Required, Diploma in Anaesthesia.
• Required, valid practice license from Minstry of Health as Anesthesia Technician.

• Internally trained by MSF desirable (MSF will train before starting). OT training desirable

Experience:

• Required, Minimum 2 years in relevant position in large hospital,
• Desirable, experience with maxillo facial, plastic, peripher, nerve and/or vascular surgical cases plus

Personal abilities and qualities:

• Must be legally authorized to work in Jordan.
• Demonstrates multi-cultural flexibility.

Languages:

• Written and verbal fluency in English and Arabic is required.

Contract

• Full-time position 100%
• Fixed-term Jordanian contract, renewable.
• Position based in Amman
• Ideal start date: 1st June 2023
