WFP RBC Summer Internship Programme 2023
The World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization saving lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies, and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. WFP Regional Office Cairo (RBC) is currently seeking motivated and qualified candidates to enroll for the 2023 Summer Internship Programme.
The Interns will be based in WFP Regional Bureau (RBC) in Cairo, Egypt. The internship assignment will be under multiple functions which are either Wellness, Administration, Communication (CAM), Partnerships, Programme (Monitoring), Programme Operational Info Management & Performance Reports Unit (OIM) Unit or Human Resources Units, based on educational backgrounds and interests of the selected candidates.

ABOUT WFP
The United Nations World Food Programme is the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. The mission of WFP is to help the world achieve Zero Hunger in our lifetimes. Every day, WFP works worldwide to ensure that no child goes to bed hungry and that the poorest and most vulnerable, particularly women and children, can access the nutritious food they need.
WFP’s Regional Bureau for the Middle East and Northern Africa (RBC), based in Cairo, Egypt, provides strategic guidance, policy/technical support and direction to WFP operations and activities in 16 countries including Algeria, Armenia, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, Yemen and Moldova. These country offices aim to assist roughly one-third of all of WFP’s beneficiaries (approx. 30 million) in some of the most critical humanitarian emergencies of our time. RBC is also active in the ‘Changing Lives’ side of WFP’s mandate, helping national governments and local communities improve nutrition, livelihoods, school feeding, social protection, climate and disaster risk reduction and other programmes that build resilience and support development.
STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Currently enrolled with in an undergraduate or graduate programme and have completed at least two years of the programme and attended classes in the past 12 months. Or a recent graduate from an undergraduate or graduate programme (within six months prior to the application to the internship programme)
- Areas of study relevant to the specific area of Internship opportunity (specific requirement can be found under each internship opportunity)
- Excellent command of English both spoken and written is required
- Fluency in spoken & written Arabic is a must
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)

1. Public Health Intern, Wellness Unit, 1 position
Duties and responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of Regional Medical Officer, the intern will perform following duties:
Data Visualization: The intern will assist in designing and producing visual aids such as graphs, charts, and tables to convey complex data in a clear and concise manner
Data Analysis: The intern will assist in analyzing data from various sources to inform decision-making and identify trends, patterns, and insights
Proofing and Editing: The intern will assist in reviewing reports and other documents to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency
Coordination with Health Facilities: The intern will assist in coordinating activities with health facilities and other stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation of Wellness programs and initiatives
Required areas of study: Public Health or Medicine
2. Wellness Intern, Wellness Unit, 1 position
Duties and responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of Regional Staff Counsellor, the intern will perform following duties:
- Development of Digital Services: The intern will contribute to the development of our wellness digital platform by helping us build the content of RBC’s Country-pages on our WFP Wellbeing App and Platform
- Coordination with Wellbeing-App stakeholders: The intern will ensure establishing good coordination between COs and HQ for the development of RBC’s Country-pages on WFP’s Wellbeing App
- Translation of psycho-educational material: The intern will support with the translation of key available online resources into Arabic to enhance access of Arabic speaking employees and their families in the region to available online resources
Required areas of study: Psychology
3. Government Partnerships Intern, Partnerships Unit, 1 position:
Duties and responsibilities:
- Implement the work plan for an assigned area to enable WFP to identify, develop and strengthen quality partnerships in support of WFP strategic objectives
- Support the contribution to a partnerships portfolio, including partner profiling and outreach activities, with the aim to maximize resources and leverage policy and technical support for WFP’s work
- Support the GPO for specific analyses to present managers with well-researched ideas to expand support from existing partners and to scope new partners, guided by programmatic assessment and context specific analysis with the aim to enhance the impact of WFP’s work and diversify the resource base
- Support the GPO to gather and present internal and external data/information, using key information systems (e.g., Salesforce, WINGS, WFPGo), to support WFP’s effective positioning vis-à-vis national governments, regional and international institutions with the aim to influence the policy agenda
- Research background information and assist the GPO to solicit inputs to draft quality briefs for senior management to inform best course of action and nurture partnerships growth
- In the context of the UN system and multilateral fora, support the GPO in the development of partnerships and joint events with member states, civil society and intergovernmental Organizations to advocate for the SDGs and Zero Hunger on the global agenda and advance WFP priorities and objectives
- Perform other duties as required

4. Social Media Intern, Communication, Advocacy and Marketing (CAM) Unit, 1 position
Duties and responsibilities:
- Under the direct supervision of the Head of Social Media, the intern will perform following duties:
- Create creative, on-brand, high-quality content (posts, videos, images) for all social media platforms to best engage target audiences
- Write and edit copy for social media incorporating the WFP voice and style in both Arabic & English
- Determine areas of opportunity, identify trends and champion new ideas around creative formats & tools
- Assist in monitoring the UN WFP's social media channels in the Middle East and North Africa region
- Support the social media team in processing content packages from the region and ensuring their appropriate use across social media platforms
- Attend meetings and contribute to social media planning and analytics discussions
- Respond to comments and messages on social media platforms in a timely and professional manner, ensuring that all interactions align with the UN WFP's brand voice and values
5. Media Relation Intern, Communication, Advocacy and Marketing (CAM) Unit, 1 position
Duties and responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the Regional Communications Officer, the intern will perform following duties:
- Proofread and review translations from English to Arabic and vice versa for communications material
- Assist in developing and implementing communication campaigns that raise awareness of WFP's work and impact in the region
- Draft and edit press releases, media briefs, and other communication materials for distribution to local and regional media outlets
- Support the organization of events and campaigns, including media launches, press conferences, and social media campaigns, to raise awareness of WFP's activities and achievements
- Contribute to the development and management of content for WFP's social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn, to engage with audiences and promote WFP's work in the region
- Support WFP CAM team in archiving communications material and organizing content
- Upload stories and news releases on the Arabic website
For both CAM internship positions – Required Qualifications and experience/soft skills:
•Required areas of study: Journalism, International Relations, Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, Arts, Development Studies, Economics, Social Sciences or any related fields
•Familiarity with social media platforms and trends, particularly in the Middle East and North Africa region
•Experience creating content, including copywriting and multimedia creation
•Passion and curiosity for humanitarian issues and media advocacy
6. Data Analyst Intern, Administration Unit, 1 position
Duties and responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the Regional Administration Officer, the intern will perform the following duties:
- Support Regional Office Cairo (RBC) preparedness and readiness to implement the Management Services Division (MSD) Strategy* through statistical data analysis by designing a suitable platform for Data Analytics that facilitates dissemination of information regarding all Administration service lines
- Use survey tools to gather information on implementation status for each RBC office, including data on the level of engagement
- Develop collaborative mechanism for cross functional consultation on statistical data analysis & reporting, with support from MSD (Digital Solutions department)
- Support the implementation of locally designed digital solutions, in liaison with Sectional Heads in Administration
- Support the dissemination of monthly reports for Regional Bureau and Country offices, including visual aid for presentations, fact sheets etc.
- Perform any other duty as required
The WFP Management Services Division (MSD) has launched a 5-year strategy that seeks to achieve excellence in service provision across the full range of Administration Services. One of the key activities will be to take part in Pilot rollout for digitalizing MSD service portfolio and support country offices in implementing corporate guidance, systems and tools in core and new areas of work while promoting innovative approaches.
Required Qualifications and experience/soft skills:
•Required areas of study: Data Analytics, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or other related field of study
•Demonstrated knowledge in statistical data analysis
•Strong knowledge and practical application using Excel
7. HR Intern, Programme – HR Unit, 1 position
Duties and responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the HR Officer, the intern will perform the following duties:
- Assist in the design and the development of diverse new HR projects in the field of employer-branding, university relationships, onboarding, learning and development programs, talent management, and others
- Support the HR team members in implementing HR solutions, helping, tracking project progress according to the timeline
- Coordinate and assist with the planning and execution of HR programs and events
- In support of the HR team, track and report the HR activities of the team. Conduct data analyses to measure the effectiveness of HR operations and solutions and suggest some process efficiencies
- Help communicate learning information to stakeholders, external vendors, and/or client groups
- Support with the administration of day-to-day HR team’s operations such as responding to staff members’ queries, running HR processes, maintaining and updating internal information websites
- Other tasks and duties are based on operational requirements and interests of the selected candidate

- Required areas of study: Human Resource Management, Public or Business
- Administration, Industrial Psychology, Social science or other relevant field
- Desire to learn about and develop key skills in the field of HR
8. Monitoring Intern, Programme – Monitoring Unit, 1 position
Duties and responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the Regional Monitoring Advisor, the intern will perform the following duties:
- Conduct analysis and interpretation of the country monitoring data that responds to the needs
- Ensure key findings from monitoring exercises are collected, consolidated, and communicated
- Support insertion of timely and quality data in the Country Office Tool for Managing Effectively (COMET) and R2 (Evaluation Recommendations)
- Collaborate with Headquarter Monitoring unit to support the development and enhancement of monitoring guidance, tools and training materials
- Provide support to Country Office (CO) level Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) staff for monitoring activities and reviews in line with the CRF. Support COs on adjustments to reflect corporate normative frameworks
- Support the launch and research of the Cooperating Partners Monitoring project
- Conduct regular data quality checks at different stages of the monitoring cycle, ensuring that monitoring data and reports are timely, complete and of high quality
- Coordinate the cleaning and adjustment of the Monitoring Regional Library
- Any relate tasks to the monitoring function and according to the needs that arise
Qualifications and specific experience/soft skills:
•Required areas of study: Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Monitoring and Evaluation and/or Social Sciences with a focus on Statistics/Data Analytics
•Experienced in Tableau is desirable
9. Graphic Design and Sharepoint Coordination Intern, Programme – Operational Info Management & Performance Reports (OIM) Unit, 1 position
Duties and responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the Regional Graphic Designer, the Intern will perform following duties:
Graphic Design Support:
- Assists in the production of materials for internal and external promotion of WFP and its operations. The products will be principally in Arabic and English
- Organize and maintain final publication digital assets for internal/external production in an archive available to the rest of the team
- Supports the implementation of new methods or tools for improving Graphic Design work processes and productivity
- Aids in the facilitation of partnerships with other WFP units, UN agencies and Graphic Design LTA companies to produce relevant Graphic Design materials
- Organizes, monitors, and prioritizes own Graphic Design inputs to ensure that they will fulfil the needs of internal and external partners
Knowledge platform management:
- Ensure maintenance of various programmatic knowledge management platforms, including but not limited to WFP’s Programme Guidance Manual, relevant pages on the WFP intranet, and document repositories
- Contribute to the development of new knowledge platforms according to organizational needs
- Contribute to the development of new processes for systematically capturing and sharing programmatic lessons learned and good practices
- Support the strengthening of Knowledge management coordination across the RBC as well as with Knowledge management focal points in Regional Bureaus and WFP Centres of Excellence, including on common activities and on regular exchange of information for better coordination on KM activities
- Other tasks as required

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
- National interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP approximately EGP 15,000 – 16,000 per month. Medical coverage is provided
- WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation and related costs
- WFP will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognized institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education
