Paid Internship Opportunity – RAM (Research, Analysis and Mapping) Intern

The World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization saving lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies, and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. WFP is currently seeking motivated and qualified candidates to enroll in the 2023 Summer Internship Programme.

The position will be based in Beirut, Lebanon. The internship will be for the period of 6 months from 1 June 2023.

Basic Eligibility Criteria:

A. Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate programme (for example, Bachelor’s degree) from a recognised university and have completed at least two years of the programme. Candidates should have attended classes in the past 12 months; OR
B. Be currently enrolled in a graduate programme (for example, a master’s degree) from a recognised university and have attended classes in the past 12 months; OR
C. Be a recent graduate from an undergraduate or graduate programme (within six months prior to the application to the internship programme) from a recognised university and have attended classes in the last 12 months of enrolment in the university; AND
D. Be fluent in English. Fluency in other WFP official and working languages is always an asset and may be an additional requirement at some duty stations; AND
E. Be fit to travel to, and work at, the duty station of the internship; AND
F. Not be sons, daughters, brothers or sisters of WFP employees; AND
G. The Programme will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognised institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education

Accountabilities:

With the delegated authority of the Head of Vulnerability, Analysis, and Mapping (VAM) and the direct supervision of the VAM officer, the VAM programme associate will be responsible for the below:

• Support in developing syntax for the different required data analysis activities (mobile data collection, economic and vulnerability assessment, essential needs assessment, food security assessment, and secondary data analysis).
• Support in cleaning, organizing, and managing the data from different targeting and assessment activities.
• Support in database back-end development including compiling, storing, and managing data.
• Support in front-end web development including building data visualization platforms.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Desired skills and knowledge:

• Currently enrolled in a university programme, or recently graduated (within the past twelve months) with degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Data Analysis, Statistics, and other related fields.
• Knowledge of programming languages (Python, Java, etc.).
• Knowledge of Electronic Data Collection Software (ODK, MODA, SurveyCTO, etc.).
• Knowledge of Database languages (SQL, Django).
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good understanding of humanitarian principles.
• Well-organized and flexible with proven ability to interact with a multicultural environment, and ability to provide demonstrated technical assistance in areas of programming, database management, and web development.
• Ability to resolve operational issues with accuracy under time constraints and pressure; to deal patiently and tactfully with staff members and others.
