Deloitte is implementing USAID’s Energy Sector Support Activity (ESSA), a market-focused program that supports the Government of Jordan to implement the Kingdom’s economic reform plans within its public institutions, with the goal to improve the energy sector’s sustainability and self-reliance.
One of the principal objectives of ESSA is to develop innovative technical and financial solutions that support long-term sustainability of power system operations. The support spans a broad array of technical and economic/financial activities, addressing grid modernization planning, grid management and expansion planning to support greater renewable energy penetration, operations emergency response, internal financial systems, and opportunities to reduce operational costs.
Role and Responsibilities
The Power System Technical Specialist is responsible for managing and coordinating the technical support for improvement of transmission grid management and expansion planning, reporting to the ESSA Power Sector Lead. The Specialist will:
- Assist the Power Sector Lead with planning the power system support activities under ESSA;
- Coordinate with stakeholders relevant to the successful completion of technical assistance activities, in collaboration with project management;
- Coordinate selection and mobilization of personnel for short-term technical assistance, in accordance with USAID regulations;
- Manage the execution of assigned technical assistance tasks, including preparation of work plans, stakeholder coordination, meeting facilitation, documentation of task activities and progress, and review of reports and presentations prepared by short-term advisors;
- Conduct capacity building programs;
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline
- Minimum of 10 years in electric power systems planning or operations, preferably within the context of a power supplier of similar or larger size as in Jordan
- Understanding of renewable energy technologies and their impact on power system operations
- Strong writing and communication skills in English and Arabic.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills and ability to work on complex projects.
- Experience working with US and/or international donors.
- Experience working in the Middle East/North Africa region and good understanding of the Jordanian power supply context including technical, organizational, and financing aspects.
