BACKGROUND & PURPOSE
The Research, Assessment and Monitoring Unit (RAM) within WFP is mandated with the generation of evidence to provide policy advice and technical guidance on the effective implementation of food security programmes. Through its expertise in the areas of food security and vulnerability analysis and mapping (VAM) as well as project monitoring and evaluation, the RAM unit is responsible for mainstreaming evidence based decision-making process into WFP’s operations.
The RAM team in WFP Tajikistan is also responsible to do monitoring of regular activities under the Country Strategic Plan 2023-2026, namely: School Feeding Programme, Nutrition Support Programme and the Climate Change & Resilience Building Programme among others. The activities include process and outcome monitoring and food security assessments. Data is collected through physical visits to sites, visits to beneficiary households and through computer assisted telephone interviews (CATI). An external monitoring agency supports WFP as the “third-party monitors” for programme monitoring.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)
Under the overall supervision of the RAM Officer-Head of Unit and the close mentoring and guidance of the M&E Officer, the candidate will perform the following duties:
• Support the implementation of the process and post-distribution / outcome monitoring of project activities – eg: review questionnaire tools, prepare visual graphs and charts and contribute to reviewing monitoring reports, check the accuracy of datasets etc.
• Coordinate with third party monitoring agency on planning of / currently ongoing monitoring activities.
• Assist with doing unofficial translations of documents, letters etc., (English-Tajik-Russian).
• Support the work of Community Feedback Mechanism under guidance of CFM Focal Point – eg: coordination with field offices (in Bokhtar, Khujand, Garm and Khorog), preparing documentation etc.
STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate/graduate programme from a recognized university, have completed at least two years of the programme and attended classes in the past 12 months; OR
- Recently graduated from an undergraduate/graduate programme (within six months prior to the application to the internship programme) from a recognized university and have attended classes in the last 12 months of enrolment in the university; OR
- Currently enrolled in a graduate programme (e.g. Master's degree) at a recognized university and have attended classes in the past 12 months;
Knowledge & Skills:
- Working knowledge of statistical analysis using tools such as SPSS, Tableau, PowerBI or similar tools.
- Analytical, problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a team and multitask as needed.
- Fully committed and motivated to achieve the aims of the UN World Food Programme.
- Experience on how to analyze, interpret and visualize data using SPSS, Tableau, PowerBI or similar tools would be an advantage.
Languages:
- Required fluency (level C) in oral and written English;
- Required fluency (level C) in oral and written Tajik or Russian; fluency in both is an advantage;
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
– Interns will receive a monthly stipend as a contribution towards basic subsidence costs the amount of which varies from duty station to another;
– WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, necessary visas and related costs;
– Depending on the duty station of assignment, WFP will reimburse travel ticket for candidates who are nationals of developing countries and are pursuing their studies in their home country;
– WFP will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognised institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education.
