KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)
The Communications Consultant will report to the Head of the UN Advisory Alliance (50%) and the Head of Marketing and Communications at the WFP Innovation Accelerator (50%) and may work in close coordination with the Communications, Advocacy, and Marketing Division (CAM) and other WFP divisions, as required.
The Communications Consultant is expected to:
1. Support the UN Advisory Alliance and Innovation Accelerator teams’ communications needs through writing, editing, and other communications-focused tasks, as required, in coordination with the Communications and Knowledge Management team.
- Produce and maintain up-to-date communication material for the Innovation Accelerator, for specific audiences, across online and traditional channels;
- Position the UN Advisory Alliance and WFP Innovation Accelerator as industry/sector leaders by drafting and editing articles, blogs, and other necessary materials, to promote the UN Advisory Alliance and the Innovation Accelerator;
- Provide writing and copy-editing support as per WFP and WFP Innovation Accelerator’s Editorial Style guides across various formats (e.g., talking points, key messages, newsletters, website content, social media content, blog content);
- Help attract high-potential social innovations from within WFP and external networks through events, PR, and digital marketing activities;
- Track, analyze, and report on the impact of communications and marketing activities through tools such as Google Analytics, Brandwatch, Mailchimp, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, and others;
- Support the creation of communications content for innovation projects which take part in Innovation Accelerator activities:
- Lead content gathering for the creation of the Innovation Accelerator portfolio pages on the website;
- Support innovation projects with communication advice and prepare communication material, as required.
2. Support other partnerships, communications, media, and events needs as required.
- Produce and maintain up-to-date communication material for the UN Advisory Alliance and WFP Innovation Accelerator in line with priority content themes for a variety of stakeholders;
- Support the production of communications content and visual assets (e.g., website content, social media content, blog content, graphics, audio/video materials, presentations);
- Prepare key messages, talking points, and briefings for WFP senior management, inter-agency opportunities, and donor communications;
- Support the UN Advisory Alliance and Innovation Accelerator’s fundraising activities and participation in external events;
- Support core processes of the UN Advisory Alliance and Innovation Accelerator (e.g., innovation challenges; boot camps; sprint programme; thought leadership; innovation fund) as required;
- Support the UN Advisory Alliance and Innovation Accelerator teams and leadership through research tasks, background reading, and interview preparation, as required;
- Monitor incoming media requests and coordinate opportunities with appropriate internal Innovation Accelerator people/teams;
- Track and report on media coverage of the Innovation Accelerator and associated innovation projects, as required;
- Execute any other task required to support the activities of the Head of the Advisory Alliance, and Head of WFP Innovation Accelerator, and the Director of Innovation and Knowledge Management;
- Liaise with the Innovation and Knowledge Management Division’s Communications Officer, the Communications, Advocacy and Marketing Division (CAM), and the Government and Private Sector Partnerships Divisions, as required.
STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: The candidate must have Bachelor's degree; a business, communications, or international development degree is preferred.
Experience: Minimum 2 years of national and/or international experience in communications, reporting, marketing, and/or business-related positions. Experience in innovation is beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in oral and written English is mandatory. Intermediate knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) or Portuguese (one of WFP’s working languages) is desirable.
REQUIRED SOFT SKILLS | WFP COMPETENCIES
- Experience in communications within a global organization required.
- Experience in management consulting or financial services marketing & communications is beneficial.
- Strong writing and copy-editing skills.
- Strong conceptual thinking to develop new communication strategies and coordinate projects.
- Familiarity with lean startup and human-centered design methodologies, interest in innovation, and taking a ’growth mindset’.
- Ability to produce and copy-edit high-quality written materials, including graphically based presentations and text documents.
- Ability to interact with leaders and external audiences with maturity and tact.
- Collaborative spirit, able to liaise with a wide range of people at all levels and across different cultures and to act with credibility and diplomacy.
- Strong time management skills with an ability to plan ahead, anticipate requirements, problems, and obstacles, manage competing priorities successfully, and work to tight deadlines.
- Self-motivated and able to work with a high degree of autonomy.
- Familiarity with modern ways of working and technology to effectively work and collaborate with colleagues via in-person, virtual, and hybrid scenarios.
- Understanding of visual design and content creation, including the use of various tools to create and distribute multimedia content, e.g., Canva, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Medium (would be beneficial).
- Knowledge/skills regarding Google Suite, Slack, and other contemporary digital tools.
- Experience with marketing metrics and reporting on digital and media analytics.
- Sets a high level of ambition for the project and their own work to achieve impact for people facing hunger whom we serve; and
- Fully committed and motivated to achieve the aims of the UN World Food Programme.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
