Terms of Reference for On-Farm Irrigation System Specialist – Short Term Technical Assistance (STTA)
The Jordan Water Efficiency and Conservation Activity (WEC) funded by USAID/Jordan and implemented by Tetra Tech ARD (http://www.tetratech.com/intdev) is currently accepting expressions of interest for qualified candidates to fill various positions. The purpose of the WEC Activity is to increase water use efficiency and conservation in Jordan by applying commercial incentives to the agriculture, industrial, and the municipal sectors and strengthening the Government of Jordan (GOJ) governance over irrigated agriculture.
Tetra Tech seeks experienced candidates for the following position:
On-Farm Irrigation System Specialist-STTA
Scope of work and key tasks:
The On-Farm Irrigation System Specialist-STTA will work with selected farmers to assess their irrigation systems and provide clear and feasible recommendations that lead to improve the irrigation efficiency and reduce the irrigation water amount applied per area unit. In addition, the On-Farm Irrigation System Specialist-STTA will provide advice on the best irrigation practices and scheduling based on the findings of assessment and the crop water requirements.
Short term irrigation specialists are required to cover the selected areas of Mafraq, Azraq, Ramtha North Jordan Valley and Deir Alla. Each on farm assessment is anticipated to take one working day and each specialist will have additional days to complete the farm assessments reports depending on the number of farms allocated.
Minimum Requirements:
- A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in designing on-farm irrigation network.
- Demonstrated experience in hydraulic assessment of irrigation systems.
- Ability to use hydraulic system design software.
- Proven experience in writing technical reports in English.
- Good knowledge of crop water requirements and proven experience in providing agricultural extension services to farmers in irrigation field
- Good knowledge of the Jordanian agricultural sector
- Advanced knowledge of English and Arabic languages. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with various stakeholders with diplomacy and tact.
Qualifications and skills:
- Advanced degree in irrigation engineering or relevant field is required or significant relevant experience after bachelor degree.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Strong English technical writing skills
- Ability to travel within Jordan as needed.
- Team player and able to work independently.
