The Program / Department / Team (Program / Department Summary)
The Mercy Corps Finance Department is responsible for all financial functions in Jordan, including
accounting, payments and banking, payroll, budgeting, financial reporting, and grant financial
management and compliance. The Mercy Corps Finance Department ensures compliance with donor
regulations as well as Mercy Corps’ internal policies and procedures.
The Position (General Position Summary)
Working in the Finance Department under the direction of the Accounting Manager, the Senior Finance
Officer will ensure the accuracy and completeness of Mercy Corps accounting records and will have
primary responsibility for managing the monthly accounting cycle.
Essential Responsibilities:
• Oversee the daily accounting and finance functions including the timely recording of transactions, cash
management, banking, payroll, amortization, receivables, and payables.
• Ensure the accuracy and authenticity of all accounting and financial records and transactions.
• Prepare the salary Payroll and Ensure the payroll file is uploaded accurately and timely manner.
• Review payments and ensure that all transactions are fully and properly documented.
• Prepare an amortization sheet for prepaid accounts and reconciliation monthly.
• Maintaining AR/AP analysis with proper follow-up and action on monthly basis avoiding long
outstanding balances.
• Support the GL Review Process and follow up in case of the required adjustment.
• Prepare and review bank reconciliation.
• Provide active support during the month-end accounting close process such as monthly amortization,
and account reconciliation, ensuring accuracy and completeness of the ledgers, and journal batches
before posting.
• Provide technical support, including training and mentoring, on financial accounting and financial
management systems and procedures.
• Support in developing and keeping Finance related SOPs and policies and roll out in the country.
• Audit preparation and focal point as assigned by the line manager.
• Ensures that supporting documents are achieved.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the line Manager.
Accountability
Reports Directly To: Accounting Manager
Works Directly With: Finance, Program, Compliance, and Operation Staff.

Mercy Corps team members are expected to support all efforts toward accountability, specifically to our
program participants, community partners, other stakeholders, and to international standards guiding

Minimum Qualification & Transferable Skills
Bachelor’s degree in accounting/ Finance.
At least 5-6 years of progressive accounting experience.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Strong attention to detail.
Highly developed time management and prioritization skills and ability to meet multiple deadlines in a
high-paced, fluid environment.
Problem-solving, planning, and decision-making skills.
Success Factors
The successful candidate will have an ability to interact effectively across international and national
program and finance teams successfully, both in a managerial as well as training capacity. S/he will be
able to support programmatic objectives with timely and meaningful financial information, have a
demonstrated ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and process information in support of changing
program activities. An impeccable professional standard of finance and procurement ethics and the
willingness and ability to enforce compliance with Mercy Corps and donor policies and procedures is
essential. The most successful Mercy Corps staff members have a strong commitment to teamwork
