Country Accounting, Statutory and Tax Reporting – Senior Associate – Finance, Amman

The opportunity

The CASTR Lead plays a key role to advise and support our business within local statutory, tax and regulatory (LSTR) framework to ensure best practices and compliant business. The role will operate within JIL and will be working closely with the MENA Internal Tax and Statutory Reporting Lead as well as the Country MSL and Tax Partners of JL.

The CASTR will also supervise, track, and evaluate day-to-day accounting activities and are expected to work closely with other finance functions.

It is a challenging role that will help us streamline and enhance our Internal processes with the goal to ensure that the firm adhere to local law requirements. From time to time there may be a requirement to take on adhoc projects within Finance directly supporting the Regional Finance Lead (RFL).

Your key responsibilities:

Statutory reporting:

  • Preparation and maintenance of statutory and tax accounts and other corporate reporting requirements.
  • Participate on month end close to identify statutory and tax adjustment.
  • Preparation of statutory financial statements and related audit schedules.
  • Preparation of information requested by reporting authorities.
  • Preparation of statements and carry out reporting as per requirement in each country.
  • Liaising with internal and external auditors
  • with respect to financial audits and co-ordinating with other parts of Finance and Business to provide audit requirements

VAT reporting and advisory:

  • Review VAT reporting package received from GDS before arranging approval from country tax lead.
  • Submission of VAT returns.
  • Regularly review VAT GL accounts and transactions to ensure that VAT are properly recorded.
  • Communicate to AP team or billing team any issues identified during review together with proposed corrective action.

WHT reporting and advisory:

  • Review WHT reporting packages received from GDS/AP team.
  • Prepare WHT return based on information received before arranging approval from country tax lead.
  • Submission of WHT return.
  • Regularly review WHT GL accounts and transactions to ensure that WHT are properly recorded.
  • Income Tax reporting and advisory
  • Facilitate and manage the preparation and review company tax returns and the accurate, timely filing of all tax forms.
  • Ensure accurate, timely filing of income tax returns and other business-related filings.
  • Find and implement opportunities for process improvement in company tax procedures.
  • Develop and implement strategic tax planning for all necessary country taxes.
  • Plan for and develop overall return calendar and coordinate timing and inputs with tax team.
  • Maintain effective control procedures over all aspects of the tax process.
  • Manage and facilitate income tax audits: preparing responses, creating schedules, etc.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory tax law developments, communicate the effects of these developments to management and the tax team and create strategies to capitalize on changes to taxation legislation.
  • Provide support with various internal audits and special tax related projects.
  • Review tax returns and quarterly/yearly tax projections.

Skills and attributes for success:

  • Very strong understanding of management accounting principles, local accounting requirements, tax laws which includes identifying similarities and treatments between different guiding principles
  • Ability to solve problems and provide a credible solution
  • Confident to challenge where appropriate
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills, with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Good time management skills and able to balance multiple priorities by considering risk, importance, and level of urgency
  • Eagerness to learn quickly, be proactive and share knowledge
  • Well-developed listening skills to provide focused advice, combined with the capability to apply judgment and seek guidance when escalation to a functional expert is appropriate
  • Excellent written, oral, and virtual communication skills with the confidence to assist with delivering presentations, training material and knowledge sharing
  • Demonstrate the ability to become an effective change advocate

To qualify for the role, you must be:

  • Used to working in a fast-paced environment with a strong work ethic
  • 5+ years of relevant experience ideally in a professional services firm.
  • Able to interact well with people at all levels within the firm and build strong relationships
  • Working to advanced knowledge on SAP, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and SharePoint
  • Desire to thrive in and adapt to a fast changing and high activity environment

Ideally, you’ll also:

  • Either have a finance related degree, be studying for an accountancy qualification or experience working for a professional service or consultancy environment
  • Be innovative, confident, and creative thinker with ability to make quick decisions
  • Have the ability to think on your feet, use initiative and judgement to make informed decisions
