Organizational Context and Brief Project Description:
The UN World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization saving lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies, and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. WFP assists almost 100 million people in around 83 countries each year. WFP’s efforts focus on emergency assistance, relief and rehabilitation, development aid and special operations. Two-thirds of our work is in conflict-affected countries where people are three times more likely to be undernourished than those living in countries without conflict.
In emergencies, WFP is often first on the scene, providing food assistance to the victims of war, civil conflict, drought, floods, earthquakes, hurricanes, crop failures and natural disasters. When the emergency subsides, WFP helps communities rebuild shattered lives and livelihoods. We also work to strengthen the resilience of people and communities affected by protracted crises by applying a development lens in our humanitarian response.
Key Accountabilities:
- Provide active psychological support in the aftermath of the earthquake to ensure continued staff wellbeing and the managers and staff are provided with the affected support to manage the crisis;
- Provide in-person and tele-counselling services to WFP employees and direct dependents in affected areas or as advised by country-based staff counsellors;
- Conduct field visit to affected areas to support WFP teams in different locations
- Establish collaborative working relationships with counterparts at Country and with senior personnel at country level (Turkiye & Syria Operations);
- Provide management consultations as needed;
- Refer to external mental health professionals and relevant services when needed;
- Provide pre and post deployment briefing to deployed Surge teams through briefs counselling sessions and other activities to ensure proactive support as extended to WFP employees;
- Deliver workshops, trainings and information sessions on a wide range of topics (such as: Trauma, stress management, problem solving, conflict resolution, etc.);
- Contribute to the design and development of psycho-educational materials;
- Contribute to the content of wellbeing platform/mobile application;
- Maintain the highest ethical standards related to the provision of psychological services consistent with the Wellness Division Ethical Guidelines and Standards of Practice;
Education, qualifications, skills, experience, areas of expertise:

- Master’s degree in Clinical Counselling or Psychology, Psychiatry, or demonstrably equivalent studies from a recognized institution; Registration as a mental health professional in the country of origin is required.
- Additional training or certification in a broad range of related fields such as trauma, addiction, resilience, etc. will be an advantage.
- At least 3 years of progressively responsible professional post graduate experience relevant to the field as required;
- Experience working in emergencies and providing counselling services to staff working under very difficult and insecure environment is an asset.
- Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills;
- Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing;
- Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including but not limited to Management, HR, Admin & Security
- Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
- Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
- Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
- Sound security awareness

Knowledge & Skills:
- Specialist expertise in the assessment of mental health needs and the assessment of risk.
- Broad knowledge of all facets of counselling services and demonstrated skills to create a trusted environment in which others can talk confidentially.
- Ability to manage crisis situations which involve diverse actors and stakeholders.
- Ability to identify clients’ needs and suggest appropriate solutions.
- Excellent communication skills (oral, written and presentation)
- Conflict resolution and mediation skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with people of both genders and diverse national and cultural backgrounds.
- Skills in designing and delivering trainings/information sessions on a number of subjects and ability to adapt those to different audiences.
Language skills:
- Fluency in spoken and written English and Turkish are required; Arabic would be asset
Remuneration: A competitive compensation and benefits package is offered.
Annual Leave Entitlement : 1.83 days per month.

Duration of the contract: 12 months (renewable)
