As a Program Officer at Open Society, you will:
- Develop a strategy on media policy, access to information, information security and culture and arts in discussions with supervisor and with the broader MENA team.
- Manage the current grants in the portfolio.
- Explore new potential partnerships and internal/external engagement with policy makers, technical experts, media organizations, and culture/art producers and distributors in the MENA region.
- Effectively coordinate with other Open Society Foundations programs, to design collaborative strategies, actions, and future campaigns/initiatives and identify opportunities to amplify partners efforts.
- Participate in the development of overall program strategy and conduct research to support program design
- Set and monitor budgets for your portfolio.
- Support the strategy directions and lead the implementation in alignment with the portfolio and MENA Program's strategy.
- Manage grantees under the unit and the identification of new actors that can advance the unit’s design, goals and impact role while undertaking ongoing assessment of portfolio.
- Deliver a prescribed budget of work and track portfolios expenditure while working within established OSF systems.

- Protection of Practitioners – including human rights defenders, journalists, scholars and students, anti-corruption activists, protestors, artists, and other critical voices of dissent

What we are looking for:
- Experience and knowledge of Middle East & North Africa politics, and international relations of MENA.
- Experience with developing and designing campaigns, advocacy, policy research, grant making and working collaboratively with partners and allies to develop new skills and build new areas of work.
- Excellent writing and project management skills
- Ability to work efficiently to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment, and ability to adapt to shifting priorities.
- Willingness to travel frequently, both domestically and internationally.
- Commitment to continuous learning and growth in the areas of diversity, equity, inclusion, antiracism, and social justice.
- Effectively work as a team member and independently, with a high-level of self-motivation and ability to set and meet goals.
- Show discretion and ability to handle confidential issues.
- Knowledge of key organizations and networks active in the field.
- Excellent listening and communication skills with sensitivity to cultural communication differences.
- Proven ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, to troubleshoot and follow projects through to completion, consistently on schedule, without loss of attention to detail and budget.
- Fluency in Arabic and English required, working knowledge of French a plus.
