BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DIVISION
WFP Security identifies, assesses, and manages all security risks that affect personnel, assets or programme delivery. As a key actor in the United Nations Security Management System (UNSMS), we leverage partnerships, digital innovation, and local resources within a clear framework of accountability.
The Security Division is seeking to fill Intern positions in the Security Analysis Team. The objective of the Security Division’s internship programme is to develop and prepare young talent by providing opportunities for the candidates to gain workplace experience, expand knowledge, refine career goals, build professional networks, including mentors and valuable contacts. The Interns will learn security risk management, operational planning, crisis management, context and conflict analysis, humanitarian access and hostage, and incident negotiation and management. In addition to their learning and gaining workplace experience, the interns will be expected to contribute to the work of the Security Division.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Security Division invites qualified candidates to apply for the internship programme. Opportunities are available in the Division's Security Analysis Team/Operations Unit.
The Intern Analyst will perform the following duties:
- Conduct research on identified topics related to political and security situation in countries of WFP operations, as well as to geopolitical context.
- Monitor political and security developments in countries of assigned regions, highlighting events, which have or may have impact on WFP operations.
- Collect, collate, validate and analyse information from a variety of open and internal sources. Prepare background notes, reports and updates on prioritized security-related issues.
- Prepare updates for the Security Division’s Fortnightly Operational Briefing and provide briefings on identified countries during the presentation
- Participate in cross-functional Weekly Analytical and Coordination (WAC) meetings on all regions, provide briefings on the situation in identified countries of assigned regions, prepare Notes for the Record.
- Assist in preparation and update of Country Security Profiles (CSPs).
- Perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION
To qualify for an internship with the World Food Programme (WFP), the applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate programme from a recognized university OR recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate programme (within six months prior to the application to the internship programme) from a recognized university;
- University course attendance in the past 12 months
- Be computer literate in standard software applications
- Excellent command of English; Working knowledge of a second UN language would be an asset.

At the end of the assignment, the Intern should:
- Understand WFP and the contribution we make to saving lives and changing lives.
- Understand the contribution of Security Division to achieving that mandate through its different functions of operations, policy and enabling and the front office.
- Demonstrate experience working in teams, drafting, and reviewing communication documents.
- Learnt and been immersed in the work environment and demonstrated ability to collaborate with others.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS:
- Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP up to the maximum amount of US$1000 per month depending on the duty station of assignment.
- WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, necessary visas and related costs.
- WFP will reimburse travel ticket for candidates who are nationals of developing countries and are pursuing their studies in their home country.
- WFP will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognised institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education.
- Candidates who bear any of the following relations to WFP staff members are not eligible to apply: sons, daughters, brothers or sisters.
