Organizational Context and Scope

Under the overall supervision of the Regional Health Assessment Coordinator (RHAPC) for MENA region, and in coordination with the Regional Travel Health and Vaccination Program Coordinator, the successful candidate will serve as the regional focal point for efficiently applying USRAP/CDC Health protocols to OAW populations served by IOM MENA region, covering both Health Assessment and Pre-departure related services, while also enhancing the expanded public health and health education activities for these population.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  1. Serve as the Migration Health Physician focal person to coordinate OAW HAP activities out of MENA region.
  2. Review and follow up on OAW beneficiary movements that are departing from outside MENA region that are under RSC MENA management (such as Europe and Pakistan)
  3. Provide clinical advisory and assist country operations in implementing USRAP specific protocol related to Health Assessment and Movements.
  4. Provide support to non-IOM panel sites in managing OAW populations’ referrals, with a focus on applicants with Significant Medical Conditions (SMC), ensuring proper follow up is in place.
  5. Assist the regional vaccination team with enhancing the prevention and control of vaccine-preventable diseases among these applicants through ensuring the full implementation of CDC vaccine recommendations.
  6. Monitor the implementation of pre-departure evaluation and pre-embarkation checks for OAW population traveling under IOM auspices
  7. Work on enhancing the expanded public health and health education activities for these population, through creating and translating relevant IEC materials.
  8. Improve the data collection, documentation and reporting of medical conditions in Mimosa through direct monitoring of data processing and entry activities of staff.
  9. Contribute to quality control of the medical records of the served population while reviewing medical cases requiring assistance during travel.
  10. Consolidate existing SOPs, related to the various Health activities, and contribute to creating new SOPs that are location-specific whenever needed.
  11. Maintain collaborative relationships with relevant stakeholders and partners to facilitate the follow up and relevant information sharing, including MHDs and other partners such as CDC and Task Force.
  12. Assist in creating and distributing relevant health education materials.
  13. Support and participate in conducting relevant trainings to IOM and non-IOM partners in the areas related to health processing of OAW populations.
  14. Help updating regional reports on medical movements and other areas as found needed.
  15. Perform other duties as may be assigned by the supervisors.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in medicine or related field from an accredited academic institution; with minimum (4) years of professional experience; Or Master’s degree in related field from an accredited academic institution with minimum (2) years of professional experience. A degree in Internal Medicine, Public Health, Epidemiology, or Community Medicine is an advantage.
  • Minimum of four (4) years, post-graduation, (post internship) of continuous clinical experience, preferably in a multidisciplinary hospital setting or at IOM/similar international clinic context.
  • Experience in Migration Heath Assessments;
  • Demonstrated progressive experience in health programme management;
  • Experience in project development, management and report writing;
  • Experience in migration health emergency response is an asset; and,
  • Experience in establishing partnerships with government institutions, health institutions and other partners.

Skills

  • Management of complex medical cases related to movements
  • Excellent reporting and writing skills, in particular for communication with partners and creating situational reports.

Languages:

Thorough knowledge of English and Arabic (oral and written).

Fluency in Dari or Pashto (oral and written) is required.
