Background

The USAID Water Efficiency and Conservation (WEC) activity is a 5-years project aims to increase water conservation in Jordan by improving water use efficiency in the agricultural, industrial, and municipal sectors. WEC will collaborate with the Government of Jordan and the private sector to achieve the goal of saving 70 million cubic meters of water by strengthening the market systems that incentivize water-saving technologies and practices, and by empowering the government to design incentive schemes that will contribute to water conservation. To achieve this target, the activity provides technical and financial resources to water saving technology organizations to increase demand and improves the private sector’s ability to meet such demand. Areas of focus are:

  • Enhance technical resources and skilled expertise of the private sector surrounding irrigation, leading to efficiency and reduced water application in irrigated agriculture.
  • Support the Government of Jordan to reduce farmer and industry reliance on fresh water and groundwater and explore other sources of water.
  • Advance private sector participation in investments to reduce industrial water consumption.
  • Expand the safe and efficient use of treated wastewater in irrigated agriculture across the kingdom.
  • Promote efficient use of water conservation in the municipal sector.

Scope and objective

WEC is seeking the services of two Agricultural Field Coordinators to facilitate the implementation of the project activities related to the irrigated agriculture.

The Field Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating all field activities. To this end, the selected candidates will oversee and plan the activities in the field and coordinating with the other farmers in all activities related to the irrigated agriculture as per the duties and responsibilities clarified in this ToR. The Field Coordinators will play a central role for the timely and efficient delivery of project activities. Each Field coordinator will be assigned for one of the following project implementation locations: Mafraq, and Azraq.

Qualifications and skills

  • Previous experience in facilitating agricultural projects interventions in Mafraq and Azraq.
  • Ability to effectively engage with farmers, local communities, and local government officials and with partner organizations.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Capacity to communicate and reporting clearly in Arabic is an asset and in English is preferably.

Duties and responsibilities

  1. Coordinate and facilitate field visits to targeted farms in the work area, and facilitate the access of project team, partners, delegations, and relevant visitors to the targeted farmers and project locations.
  2. Carry out the necessary logistics and coordination for conducting the meetings with the farmers, the relevant workshops, and field days with the highest quality standards.
  3. Liaise with relevant governmental institutions, the private sector, farmers, and other stakeholders in the assigned location, and maintain professional communication and networking with them to serve the interests and objectives of the project.
  4. Update the WEC project team on any relevant changes, challenges, and issues in the field.
  5. Participate in farmers’ meetings and relevant project activities.
  6. Working closely with farmers on adopting the relevant services, technologies, and suggested best practices promoted for achieving the water saving objectives of the project.
  7. Contribute to the WEC’s project information dissemination and communicating the relevant awareness messages on a large scale among farmers.
  8. Ensure project equipment and materials provided for the project implementation are prudently used, and well maintained, and required records are kept.
  9. Provide the relevant information for developing and maintaining the project farmers’ database.
  10. Assist with the compilation of data for project monitoring and provide timely field progress reports.
  11. Being the main contact point for all field-relevant issues in the target area.
  12. Work to preserve the project’s property within the highest specifications and the lowest costs, and the WEC project’s interest is supreme, as well as preserving work secrets, data, and field maps related to the project’s work.
  13. Adhere to a strong work ethic and carry out the requested tasks professionally and in a timely manner.
  14. Perform other related duties as may be required and assigned by the supervisor.

Deliverables

  • Weekly report with list of visits made including, date, name of farmer or enterprise visited, address and contact details, GPS coordinates.
  • Purpose of visit and outcome
  • List of actions and activities completed.
  • Photographs of farms visited.
