Health Advisor
The “Psychosocial Support and Trauma Work in Jordan” Project is seeking a “Health Advisor” – for full-time base employment as per the below job profile.
Qualifications and specialist knowledge
- University degree in an area that is related to the project/programme objectives, such as psychology, counselling, mental health, social work, sociology and public health or has sufficient qualification through applied advanced trainings
- At least 7 years professional experience in a comparable position
- Experience in working with host communities and refugees in Jordan
- Experience in coordinating and advising international projects and/or community-based organisations focusing on psychosocial support
- Experience in facilitating dialogues, coordinating stakeholders and managing projects in host communities in Jordan
- Good knowledge of the situation of refugees and host communities in Jordan and recent trends/ priorities in psychosocial support
- Good communication skills (writing and speaking) and proven skills to work in an intercultural context
- Very good working knowledge of ICT technologies and computer applications (e.g., MS Office/MS Teams and other applications)

The advisor
- provides technical advice to the Community-based organisations and universities to strengthen learning, coordination, collaboration and communication for strengthening psychosocial support services to the communities
- Explores and promotes ways towards helpful use for social media, apps, internet and other digital devices to strengthen psychosocial support
- supports universities in strengthening courses or other offers for teaching psychosocial support skills and for coordinating their activities and internship probrams with the community-based organisations
- supports the community-based organisations with trainings to enhance their psychosocial support services
- supports the project and Cluster with relevant tasks or activities
- supports the team with all relevant aspects concerning the implementation of the project
- Developing and writing TOR and contracts for consultants, defining and assessing quality criteria for implementation and learning
- Networking and cooperation

- develops and maintains contact with all important stakeholders (governmental and non-governmental) as part of the project
- communicates and interacts with government institutions, non-governmental agencies and community-based organisations and participates in meetings and seminars etc
- Collaborates closely with consultants or partners, contributing to jointly strengthening acvitivities towards high quality and sustainability

Core tasks
In your role you are responsible for the technical, substantive and organisational implementation of a project’s measures and activities. In consultation with your line manager, you also assume tasks related to planning, steering and monitoring the project, including project administration tasks in some cases. You are also responsible for providing specialist support to colleagues, partners and consultants, and ensure the quality of the commission’s outcomes.
In addition you contribute to the conceptual design of the project, in particular its modification or realignment.
You make technical and substantive contributions to overarching issues in cooperation with commissioning parties/clients, partners and other actors and thereby support the achievement of the agreed objectives of the respective project and provide impetus for further strategy development.
In coordination with your line manager, cluster coordinator and the country director, you also use your contacts for the acquisition of contracts on behalf of giz as organisation.
In consultation with your team colleagues and line manager, you also coordinate all issues within your area of work and ensure that they are dealt with promptly and competently. You resolve problems that arise in your area of responsibility on the basis of existing rules and draw attention to more complex challenges in your team.
You are involved in ongoing process development within your project, are responsible for knowledge management and prepare and share documentation. If required, you also support or supervise other experts or trainees in familiarising themselves with and performing their tasks.
You perform the tasks assigned to you by your line manager, where required.
About the project
The project on Psychosocial Support and Trauma Work in Jordan of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in collaboration with the Jordanian Ministry of Health was commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) for the duration of 1/2017-04/2023.
The goal of the project is to improve the quality and quantity of mental health and psychosocial support services (MHPSS) provided by the government and civil society actors to the entire population in three selected refugee host communities (Sahab, Zarqa, Mafraq). The project has built capacities within health centers, community-based organisations (CBOs) and through courses at universities to provide MHPSS that are sensitive to gender, trauma and culture.
