BACKGROUND

Job Summary:

A lab manager is responsible for supporting medical professionals in research, testing an laboratory maintenance. Their duties include recording data, sterilizing equipment, and ordering and organizing supplies, team supervision, supply tracking.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function with or without reasonable accommodation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. To be the focal point for licensing the hospital laboratory as per Ministry of Health regulations.
  2. Prepare the monthly schedule for Lab technicians.
  3. Manage the related team administratively including leave plan preparation, schedule changes, staff attendance and staff appraisal in coordination with clinic manager.
  4. Keeping records of GIOs, Waybills, GRNs documents for all medical supplies related processes in Lab.
  5. To coordinate with related focal points to ensure the availability of any needed consumables, reagents, kits. etc.
  6. Provide regular reports about the activity, in addition to incident reporting.
  7. To follow up on service trainings, prepare a regular schedule for the trainings.
  8. Performs a variety of technical laboratory duties. Performs routine and delegated duties according to departmental policies. Provide laboratory services according to national / MOH and WHO standards.
  9. To undertake professional duties under direction of the line manager;
  10. To take, register, process and analyze blood and body fluids samples as per requested and in line with the policy of the clinic management;
  11. Refer samples to external laboratory to be analyzed as per the agreed upon by the line manager and clinic management (clinical samples, quality control / reference laboratory, etc.)
  12. To plan and set-up the laboratory according to health standards as required by the supervisor/line manager and rules and regulations. This includes:
    • Following up on the maintenance of laboratory stock and accurate record keeping of laboratory activities
    • Maintenance of laboratory stock and accurate record keeping of laboratory activities;
    • Maintenance of proper storage conditions laboratory material and equipment;
    • Maintenance of laboratory equipment;
  13. To inform immediately clinical staff and line or clinic Manager of any critical delay or breakdown in essential laboratory services
  14. To provide regular and timely reports; to be agreed upon with the line manager;
  15. To train clinical and other hospital staff in his/her capacity and attend in-service training as per agreed upon with the line manager;
  16. To work according to the Ministry of Health / WHO and hospital guidelines, including quality assurance;
  17. Share and develop technical skills with the colleagues as part of a mutual capacity building objective;
  18. Perform other duties assigned / requested by the Line Manager.

Minimum Qualification

  • Masters Degree in Medical Laboratory Science.
  • 4 years of practical experience in a certified institution.
  • License to manage a laboratory
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in an MoH Certified Institution in Clinical Management.
  • Strong knowledge of MoH policies and general system of Clinical Management.
  • Highly organized and has excellent communications, public relations, supervisory, personnel management skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal and electronic communication skills required.
  • Excellent computing skills in Microsoft Office, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel required.
  • Able to integrate into multi-cultural team and cooperate with co-workers.
  • Ability to identify problems immediately and initiate improvements of needed with senior management.
  • Experience working in humanitarian emergency settings is an asset.
