About the jobSummary of Duties:
Under the direction of the Senior Trade Commissioner or another experienced Trade Commissioner, the Trade Officer (LE-O1) interacts directly with Canadian clients and Jordanian business contacts. He/she gathers market intelligence and prepares information materials on various sectors, with an emphasis on the agri-food sector, for our clients’ usage. The Trade Commissioner is responsible for contributing to the delivery of the Embassy’s trade program: planning, leading and evaluating initiatives, and providing services to Canadian business clients:

Area of Selection:
This vacancy is open to external applicants eligible to work in Jordan and individuals currently occupying an indeterminate or term position in the Embassy of Canada to Jordan. Candidates must meet all of the essential qualifications stated below and applications must be received by the closing date.

Essential Qualification:
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, language* and experience. All applicants must submit a resume and a cover letter by the closing date. Education
Candidates will be required to provide proof of the completion of their education.
A Bachelors degree from a recognized universityOR
an acceptable combination of relevant education, experience, training related to the duties and specific areas of competence required by the position.
Language
Fluency in English language (oral and written);Fluency in Arabic language (oral and written).
Experience
At least three (3) years of recent (within the past five years) relevant work experience in all of the following areas for a corporate organization, foreign mission or other government office or international organization
Significant experience in international business development on behalf of foreign firms exporting to JordanExperience in developing client and stakeholder relationships, including preparing for and conducting meetings with key internal and external contactsExperience in planning programs with minimal supervision for at least one of the following: high-profile visits, trade shows, roundtable networking eventsExperience in working and liaising with government departments and officials

The Rated Requirements are part of the essential qualifications and are relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies. Methods of assessment for rated requirements may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview (online pre-recorded/live or in-person), role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.

Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications.
Language:
Proficiency in French (reading, writing, listening, speaking)
Experience:
Experience working in Jordan’s agri-food sector with established relationships with Jordanian agri-food importers, distributors and retailersExperience analyzing and reporting on emerging policies and market trendsExperience in working with visiting business and/or government delegations
Knowledge:
Knowledge of key challenges and related commercial opportunities for Canadian agri-food companies in the Jordanian marketOperational Requirements:
Working hours 37.5 hours per week, 5 days a week;Ability to work occasional overtime (evenings, weekends if necessary)This position may require the incumbent to be able to obtain and maintain a valid travel document and be willing and available to travel internationally.
Conditions of Employment:
Conditions of employment must be met or complied with before being appointed to a particular position, and are to be maintained throughout the employment while being the incumbent of this position.
Valid work authorization: Ability to obtain and hold a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period.
Security screening: Obtain and maintain a Reliability Status (security level) which includes a criminal and credit background check from the Government of Canada covering the entire employment period.
