Duration: 3 months, with possibility of extension to 11 months
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
The Partnerships and Advocacy Department provides leadership and expertise to WFP's global partnership and resource mobilization efforts, ensuring that WFP gets maximum resources to fully meet the needs of the people we serve, in order to support Member States in achieving Zero Hunger and Agenda 2030.
The Deputy Executive Director for Partnerships & Advocacy (DED PA) leads and oversees the Organization’s partnerships and resource mobilization activities with governments, UN agencies, private sector, and other partners as well as its communication, advocacy and marketing efforts. The consultant will be contributing to the DED PA´s Front Office. This unit plays a key role in supporting the DED PA and the department in bringing alignment and strategic thinking across the divisions and offices.
The candidate will support the team and the DED PA on the below-mentioned topics with a focus on the DED’s strategic engagement.
ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Identify, advise on, plan for, support DED's preparation and participation to, backstop strategic external, and sometimes internal engagements.
- Support follow up actions related to such engagements and events, as required.
- Provide support and guidance to technical staff of PA and other WFP divisions on the preparation of talking points, briefs, info notes for internal / external events or meetings and do the quality control of those in terms of relevance and accuracy to ensure utility to the DED.
- Participate, document and follow up, as necessary, on the DED internal and external meetings.
- As needed, accompany the DED during duty travel, and provide (substantive and/or logistical an) support as required.
- AOB as required in relation to the PA front office.
DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT:

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education:
Advanced University degree in Political Science, International Development, Development Economics, International Relations, or other relevant field, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or trainings/courses.
Experience:
Up to 5 years of progressively responsible experience in foreign policy, development policy or partnerships is essential.
Proven experience and success in the partnerships or communications work of WFP is essential.
Proven experience of working with multiple international teams is essential.
Knowledge and Skills:
Ability to lead and coordinate divisional and inter-divisional processes, to jointly develop strategic engagements.
Ability to frame, structure and produce high-quality written materials, including reports and PowerPoint presentations.
Excellent organisation and time management skills with demonstrated ability to plan; anticipate requirements, problems and obstacles; multi-tasks; identify and implement solutions; use judgment to effectively juggle competing priorities; work to quality and tight deadlines; communicate clearly; and work collaboratively with a team whilst upholding accountability.
Languages:
Fluency (level C) in English language. Knowledge of Spanish, French or Arabic a strong asset.
