Internship – Asset Creation and Livelihoods Intern

Programme and Humanitarian Division (PROR-L)

WFP HQ Rome, Italy

The World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization saving lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. We are currently seeking to fill an intern position in the Livelihoods, Asset creation and Resilience Unit of the Programme and Humanitarian Division, based in Rome, Italy.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DIVISION

The most vulnerable and food insecure people live in fragile, resource-scarce and degraded environments, in areas that are prone to climate disasters and exposed to frequent shocks. WFP’s asset creation programmes address immediate food needs through cash, voucher or food transfers, while at the same time they build or rehabilitate productive household and community infrastructure, as well as promote livelihood practices and agricultural techniques that will improve long-term food security and resilience.

Since 2013, asset creation programmes have helped millions of people each year across more than 50 countries to bring hundreds of thousands of hectares of degraded land back into productive use, plant thousands of hectares of forests, and build scores of wells, ponds and feeder roads. Asset creation and skills development programmes have also been instrumental in improving communities’ livelihoods through trainings, for example on context-relevant income generation activities and agricultural practices curricula.
