SRO – AO6 – Education Project Officer (National Position)
NRC currently has more than 2,000 staff in the Middle East region assisting people displaced by conflict in Syria. As a leading humanitarian organization, we support displaced persons by implementing programs across the Shelter, Education, Food Security, Information Counseling and Legal Assistance (ICLA) and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sectors with strong protection and resilience focus integrated into our programs. In the Middle East, NRC has over 3000 staff dedicated to assisting people affected by the conflict in Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, and Palestine. Its humanitarian interventions are based upon its programming expertise in the Core Competencies of Shelter, Education, Water and Sanitation Hygiene, Food Security, along with Information Counselling and Legal Assistance (ICLA) to forcibly displaced people. The Syrian Crisis is well into its eight-year, but the level and intensity of conflict in the country remain high. Humanitarian and protection need continue to grow inside of Syria as a result of the ongoing conflict and consequent complex emergency situation in which displacement is both massive and widespread.
The purpose of the Education Project Officer position is to implement the day-to-day activities of the Education project and support the team in coordinating all related activities in Syria. The position ensures effective planning of activities, monitors their implementation, coordinates reporting, provides advice and support to teams in Syria, and makes sure that resources are used effectively.
Generic responsibilities
1. Ensure adherence with NRC policies, tools, handbooks, and guidelines.
2. Implement delegated CC project portfolio according to plan of action.
3. Prepare and develop status reports as required by management.
4. Ensure proper filing of documents.
5. Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need and explore and asses new and better ways to assist.
6. Promote and share ideas for technical improvement.
7. Take the lead in preparing and following up on education projects procurement.
Specific responsibilities
• Contributes to the identification of potential projects in coordination with the project’s management and field teams in Syria.
• Administers the project’s activities including raising purchase requisitions, preparation of payment vouchers, and maintaining the project’s archive.
• Ensures that all documents are scanned and stored both electronically, and ensures proper filing of project’s documents that are submitted by the field teams.
• Supports in assessments coordination by compiling progress tracking, reviewing assessment reports, and assisting in the preparation of related documents and forms.
• Assists in reviewing procurement contracts and related documents, analyse contents and findings, and provides recommendations on variations or changes.
• Tracks the results of the projects implementation and reports findings and/or breaches to the line
manager.
• Assists in the coordination of Education activities according to strategy, proposals, budgets, and plans.
• Ensures that authorities, communities, and community leaders are involved and informed about the activities of the projects, in coordination with the field teams.
• Breaks down the annual operational plans into weekly, monthly, and quarterly implementation plans and ensures that all plans are documented, regularly updated, and properly tracked.
• Coordinates remotely with the relevant partners in Turkey and Syria for the projects activities when needed.
• Carries out any other related activities relevant to the role, as requested by the line manager.

Context/ Specific skills, knowledge and experience:
• Bachelor degree in Social Sciences, Business Administration, Education, or any other relevant field
• Previous relevant experience with community work in rural and urban areas
• Experience in a humanitarian context
• Ability to work independently in a result oriented multi-tasking and multi-cultural environment
• Ability to manage conflicting priorities
• High integrity and confidentiality
• Negotiation skills
• Fluent in both Arabic and English, written and verbal
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications, mainly Word and Excel
