Communication Specialist

The “Trade for Employment -T4E” Project in Jordan is seeking a “Communication Specialist” – for full-time base employment as per the below job profile.

Qualifications and specialist knowledge

  • University degree (preferably Masters) in communications, media design or a comparable qualification      
  • Five years of professional experience in a position comparable to the above requirements in communication (preferably political and development context), PR and/or (social) media.      
  • Experience in contracting and managing external service providers e.g. in graphic design, editing or other related areas.      
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Arabic (German is an asset) and professional ability to draft and edit texts for communication materials in both English and Arabic.      
  • Professional working knowledge of ICT technologies (related software and computer applications, e.g. MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint); high affinity to social media.      

Main activities

  • Conceptualizing, developing, editing and production of print and digital PR and communication materials such as factsheets, flyers, press releases, regular newsletter, presentations, documentations, minutes, publications, social media contents, short videos in close cooperation with T4E technical team.      
  • Initiating and developing service contracts, managing and supervising consultants, designers, proof-readers, photographers, videographers, etc. and all other related services for communication materials.      
  • Managing the necessary internal and external coordination processes to produce and revise communication materials and publications in accordance with GIZ and donors’ standards (including gender mainstreaming), particularly for project interventions and events and acting as focal contact point for communication for T4E towards other projects and GIZ country office.      
  • Establishing and maintaining contacts with the national media as well as relevant staff at T4E’s political and key partner institutions.      
  • Attending, supporting, preparing T4E events with respect to communication services.      
  • Performing general photo and video editing for presentations and documentations of events and publications.
  • Technical guidance of junior staff in the field of communication and PR. All other duties instructed by the project management.

In your role you work on all job orders within your remit and are the main contact for advising managers, other staff members and external partners on all issues in the thematic area. You provide advice on formulating and producing targeted and relevant PR content that is to be disseminated via various internal and external platforms in connection with the objectives of the country office.

You clearly communicate the relevant requirements, conditions and restrictions regarding GIZ’s communications and PR strategy and your capacity to act, and ensure that these requirements are met.

You coordinate the process for awarding contracts, agree and enter into contracts in accordance with the relevant legal, contractual, socio-political and corporate policy requirements and monitor the processing and fulfilment of those contracts.

You also develop and implement the communication strategy and guidelines for internal and external communications that are produced by the divisions and projects in the respective country and ensure that they are up to date.

In consultation with your team colleagues and line manager, you also coordinate all issues within your area of work and ensure that they are dealt with promptly and competently. You resolve problems that arise in your area of responsibility on the basis of existing rules and draw attention to more complex challenges in your team.
