POSITION DESCRIPTION

This employee based in Jordan provides support and guidance to a cohort of ten highly qualified students as they apply to U.S. undergraduate programs, learning what to expect in their U.S. study pursuits, and gaining acceptance and financial aid from U.S. institutions of higher education.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop a recruitment campaign to attract highly qualified students interested in U.S. study from various backgrounds throughout Jordan
  • In coordination with the U.S. Embassy in Jordan, set up an application and selection process to establish a cohort of ten highly qualified students
  • Orient and lead the cohort group through the process of preparing for and then applying to U.S. institutions of higher education, including providing guidance on:
    – Learning about major and minor fields of study
    – Researching accredited institutions
    – Writing a personal statement and essays
    – Application procedures for different institutions, including materials required and the use of the Common
    Application
    – Standardized tests, including acronyms and required scores
    – Elements of effective application essays and recommendation letters
  • Organize training programs and workshops to include the following topics:
    – Application essay writing and requests for letters of recommendation
    – Application requirements and procedures
    – Completing university admissions and financial aid applications
    – Navigating the U.S. visa application process
  • Recruit alumni of U.S. higher education institutions to serve as mentors to the advising cohort
  • Organize professional development opportunities and networking events for the students and the public
  • Facilitate student attendance at the EducationUSA Academy program in summer 2024
  • Plan and deliver pre-departure orientations
  • Understand program requirement and administer funds designated for student support
  • Provide additional individualized support to each student during the application process

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Knowledge of U.S. higher education and Jordanian education system
  • Knowledge of standardized tests required for U.S. higher education admissions
  • Experience setting up networking and other events, both in person and virtually
  • Minimum three years’ professional work experience
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Fluent written and verbal English and Arabic skills
  • Experience creating PowerPoint slide decks
  • Precise attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work under pressure
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications

Preferred

  • Master’s degree
  • Experience studying in the U.S./experience on a U.S. campus and be able to provide students with first-hand accounts of campus life
  • Experience in an international context

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The incumbent in this position will work in a professional office environment from the corporate office and on occasion from a home office and will utilize the following equipment when working from the corporate office or remote home office on a full time.

  • Telephone

Up to 20% business travel may be needed to support the program as needed.
