Action Against Hunger is an international non-governmental organization working in more than 40 countries in the fields of nutrition, food security and livelihoods, water sanitation and hygiene, and care practices. ACF is looking for its program in Jordan for Program Intern – WASH

Work place: Jordan – Irbid

Core Functions/ Responsibilities

Under the overall management of the WaSH Senior Officer-Rehabilitation, the intern will assist and support achieving specific tasks related to the ACF Jordan country office. The intern will not work under the framework of the specific project but he/she will be involved in tasks that support the achievement of a number of objectives aligned with the WaSH sectoral strategy and other cross-cutting themes in the mission.

General tasks:

  • Arranging appointments via phone calls and field visits
  • Data entry for Completion Certificates and update the Data Base as well.
  • Support Field team based on need in the technical assessments of the shelters.
  • Any task assigned by supervisor

Specific tasks per thematic areas:

  • Beneficiaries’ assessment: The intern will be working with the WaSH PM to provide assistance in the assessment process including coordination and scoring.
  • Partnership Support: Assist in the training of selected partners on water conservation and hygiene promotion practices.
  • Wash facilities Rehabilitation: the intern will assist in the selection of sites and continue to support the different activities related to the rehabilitation including the design and monitoring of the implementation.
  • Data Management: the intern will assist in updating and archiving the follow-up and progress data in an organized way to be used as a reference and to be analyzed in addition to monitoring indicators. The intern may also be requested to provide support to ongoing WASH assessments including the cleaning and translation of data.
  • Community Mobilization: the intern will assist in developing the required tools and materials, assist in community training, and in the supervision of Hygiene promotion approaches and specific activities.
  • Meetings and coordination: Upon WASH PM request, participate in meetings and WASH events, and Support other ACF teams when needed; service, finance, HR, Admin and Logistics, M&E department, and any other work-related departments or stakeholders.

Learning opportunities for the intern

  • General understanding of the humanitarian sector experience and the role of different humanitarian actors including international and national NGOs and local actors in the humanitarian context
  • General understanding of the Action Against Hunger mission in Jordan.
  • General understanding of the coordination mechanisms between humanitarian actors in the sector.
  • Insight and hands-on experience in Action against Hunger WaSH operational and programmatic management.
  • Insight and hands-on experience in community mobilization aspects in the host communities.
  • Working experience in a multicultural environment.

The intern is also expected to strengthen his/her knowledge and understanding of Action Against Hunger implementation guidelines by reading project documents and related SoPs. The intern will respect ACF internal rules and regulations, by-laws, and policies, and will adhere to the Code of Conduct

Skills

Minimum qualifications and experience

  • Currently enrolled in a master’s program in Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene.
  • Good oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Creative open-minded team player with strong initiative and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural working environment.
  • Priority will be be for applicants from the area of implementation.
