BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
The Financial Reporting Service (FINR) is located in the Corporate Finance Division and oversees corporate financial reporting within WFP. Its main responsibility is the supervision and support of the Contribution Accounting and Donor Financial Reporting Branch (FINC) and General Accounts Branch (FING). In addition, it drives project-related activities in financial management and risk oversight automation and data analysis. This position will support FINR activities with specialized skills in data analysis and science. It will report to the Data Scientist (Finance) in FINR and have an indirect reporting line to the Deputy Director for Financial Reporting.
ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the supervision of the FINR Data Scientist (Finance), the consultant will have the following responsibilities:
- Gathering, documenting, refining, and prioritizing business requirements from Finance Division stakeholders in HQ and the field;
- Connecting to source systems and ingesting large amounts of data;
- Preparing data for visualization and data analysis;
- Performing data quality checks and validation;
- Automating, maintaining financial reports, visualizations, and dashboards, and optimizing their performance;
- Intaking improvement feedback on the released products and implementing changes according to priorities;
- Applying statistical methodology to complex data to find patterns and solutions;
- Developing prediction systems and machine learning algorithms;
- Filter inconsistencies and identify potential data and/or process problems by reviewing reports and developed financial performance indicators;
- Presenting results in a clear manner and proposing solutions to tackle business challenges, data transformations and integrations;
- Collaborating with Finance and Technology teams.
Education:
A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or relevant field.
Experience:
Minimum 3 years of experience in Financial or Business Data Analyst/ Data Scientist/ Statistician or relevant position
Knowledge & Skills:
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy;
- Advanced knowledge of and experience with reporting and analytics software (Tableau is required, SAP BusinessObjects BI and others will be an advantage);
- Strong knowledge of and experience with Python for Data Science, SQL, Tableau Prep;
- Technical expertise regarding data models, data ingestion pipelines, and data mining;
- Solid experience in statistical data processing and machine learning techniques: time series analysis, forecasting, descriptive and inferential statistics, principal component analysis, classification, regression, neural networks, etc.;
- Experience with SAP HANA and Palantir Platforms will be an advantage;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel, Teams;
- Experience of work in Agile/Scrum teams, and knowledge of Scrum methodology;
- Ability to manage tasks with Azure DevOps, Kanban boards, Miro, or other similar tools;
- Adept at queries, report writing and presenting findings;
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present analytical information in an easily understandable format to both internal and external stakeholders;
- Strong interpersonal skills and work ethics, able to proactively and independently pursue tasks, ensure timely delivery, and manage competing priorities within tight deadlines.
Language:
Excellent command of the English language. Knowledge of a second official UN language: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish, and/or WFP’s working language, Portuguese, will be an advantage.
