ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The position will be in WFP’s Jordan Country Office and will report to the Communications Officer NOB. The communication Unit is an integral part of an overarching division of Partnership and Operational Information Management, that is supervised by the Head of Partnerships and Information Management.

The successful candidate will support the Communication Officer in the creation of content and services aimed at maintaining and enhancing WFP’s visibility and reputation, as well as, supporting fundraising activities.

JOB PURPOSE

To implement the communications plan by supporting and delivering a range of communications activities, providing research and analysis, and prioritising effectively.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

1. Contribute to the development and implementation of country specific communication work plans designed to maintain and enhance the visibility and reputation of WFP, as well as support fundraising activities, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and WFP narratives.
2. Support with maintaining updated media contact lists and managing effective relationships with media outlets to disseminate news/information about WFP’s work to the media, pitch stories, and assist with handling incoming media queries.
3. Contribute to communications through good research, analysis of assigned area of work and timely preparation and distribution of information products to target audience(s).
4. Oversee the process of gathering information from the field, beneficiaries, partners and/or other WFP units to support the development of communications materials.
5. Develop, review and/or edit communication materials and donor visibility, including press releases, stories, messaging, Q&As, photos and videos, ensuring adherence to WFP visibility guidelines and consistency with corporate messages.
6. Support the social media plan by developing social media content and utilising platforms, networks and partners to enhance coverage and support of WFP activities in general.
7. Monitor traditional and social media, and report relevant information to senior staff to inform the development and/or evaluation of communications activities and strategies.
8. Contribute to data collection and the preparation of accurate and timely reports, support communications activities that enable informed decision making, and assist with verifying consistency of information presented to the media and other stakeholders.
9. Support the Communications unit’s capacity building of WFP staff on proposing (bidding for contracts) and implementing visibility work, providing advice and guidance within area and level of expertise, in order to assist staff in ensuring that all activities meet desired standards of consistency, quality and impact.
10. Support with liaising and interacting with WFP staff and external counterparts to support aligned activities and a coherent approach to communications within WFP.
11. Provide support to junior communications staff with more complex analysis, tasks and queries.
12. Other as required.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Advanced University degree in Communications, Journalism, International Relations, Public Relations, or other relevant experience supplemented by one year of post graduate professional experience. Or First University degree with additional years of post-graduate professional experience and/or trainings/ courses.

Experience: At least one year of postgraduate progressively responsible professional experience and a proven track record in communications.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Strong writing and editing skills in Arabic and English.
  • Ability to structure and implement own ideas in a team environment.
  • Ability to handle a large volume of work and to meet short deadlines.

Language: Fluency in oral and written Arabic and English is a must.

WFP is following the UN salary scale in Jordan; the expected net pensionable salary ranges between 29,738 and 38,823 JOD per year; depending on the years of experience exceeding the minimum requirements.
