ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The Communications Associate will work in the Communications Unit and in collaboration with the other units of WFP.

JOB PURPOSE

To support the communications team with creating content to enhance the visibility of WFP’s work in Jordan and support fundraising activities through social media, in addition to writing stories and case studies collected from the field.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

1. Contribute to drafting, editing and/or translating content for use on traditional and social media platforms, and printed materials, to enhance coverage and support of WFP’s activities, ensuring consistency with corporate messages.
2. Under guidance, support with overseeing WFP Jordan’s social media channels and manage regular content posting following an approved editorial calendar.
3. Conduct research and support social media content with initiative and creativity, such as by identifying influencers, preparing plans, and suggesting original ideas.
4. Assist with gathering information from the field, beneficiaries, partners and/or other WFP units to support the development of communications materials, including stories, visuals, and videos.
5. Assist with monitoring traditional and social media, and report relevant information to senior staff to inform the development and/or evaluation of communications activities and strategies.
6. Capture photos at events, visits and/or signing ceremonies for use on social media and in other communications materials.
7. Document, manage storage and regularly update all content, photos, videos, and reports on the Country Office’s SharePoint and WFP’s Multimedia Hub to ensure information is accurate, organized and available for others to access.
8. Support donor relations communication requests, document donor contributions and/or create content packages for donors.
9. Support the Communication with Communities (CwC) programme by reviewing social media key messages, and proactively suggesting initiatives to counter misinformation, educate communities on WFP assistance and promote healthy practices.
10. Distribute and promote communications guidelines for WFP staff to refer to, and respond to internal requests for communications support using initiative, and following standard WFP processes and guidelines (branding, visibility, etc.), to ensure timely and accurate resolution of all enquiries.
11. Track performance of communications activities, outputs or outcomes, including social media, with analytics and assist with reporting on communications activities.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in the related functional area. A university degree in marketing, communications or social media is desirable.

Experience:

  • 6 (or more) years of experience in communications and social media.
  • Experience in developing and writing communications content.
  • Experience managing social media pages for brands.

Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in Arabic and English.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Excellent command of English and Arabic and highly developed writing and editing skills.
  • Strong editorial judgement, including ethical and political awareness.
  • Proven skills in communication, networking, negotiation, and ability to relate to different audiences.
  • Ability to work within team and deliver under pressure.
  • Knowledge in using digital tools such Canva is essential.
  • Excellent computer skills (MS Office essential; Adobe Photoshop and/or Canva are an asset). Familiarity with Trello an asset.
  • Skills in graphic design, photography, and video production is a plus.
  • Has attention to detail and proven track record of delivering high-quality work on time.
