JOB PURPOSE
The nutrition programme focuses on strengthening the existing gains and mitigating challenges, as well as coming up with new innovative ideas that improve service delivery of nutrition interventions. This role will focus on closely working with the Nutrition programme team, Resource management, Supply chain management, Monitoring and evaluation, Partnership, and other programme units to facilitate delivery of quality nutrition services by partners in Cox’s Bazar camps, local communities, and on Bashan Char Island. The post holder will additionally focus on leading and solidifying technical soundness and implementation of preventive nutrition interventions to expected standards, whose scope will include Cox’s Bazar, Bangladeshi communities, and on Bashan Char Island.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)
• Contribute to the development of WFP’s Nutrition programme design and implementation including local community programmes and on Bashan Char Island, while aligning the plans and processes to the wider nutrition policies, CSP, and sector strategies.
• Provide technical assistance, programme management support, and liaise with partners to ensure smooth implementation of activities ensuring effective collaboration, timeliness, efficiency, and highlight potential risks to project delivery.
• Organize for and strengthen partners’ capacity that improves quality of programme implementation and reporting with focus to preventive nutrition.
• Provide technical guidance and support to the design and of nutrition sensitive programmes ensuring engagement plans are in place and are followed up for compliance. This includes engaging and coordinating with the Food Security and Nutrition sectors and other relevant actors including government of Bangladesh through the Civil Surgeon Office.
• Technically support and enhance capacity for the development and co-ordination of data gathering and other evidence generation assessments as required ensuring that rigorous quality standards are maintained.
• Technically support and enhance capacity for tracking, analysis of data, and utilization while contributing to internal and external reporting needs.
• Support the identification of potential partners and partnership negotiations to ensure a collaborative and holistic approach to meeting nutrition needs. This includes working with NGO Partnership teams for partner evaluations, review of partner EoI, proposals, budgets and partner agreements.
• Support the capacity building of WFP staff and partners including government staff and Nutrition sector to review or develop strategies, protocols, training materials, IECs and other programme materials necessary to improve quality nutrition service delivery focusing on preventive and other nutrition sensitive programmes.
• Represent WFP in critical fora and platforms to facilitate coordination, consultation and collaboration with key government bodies and partner organizations. This includes support to MIYCN technical working group.
• Research and analyse policy and operational issues to support senior colleagues in the development of policies, programmes activities, and innovations.
• Ensure a coordinated approach in line with WFP standards and procedures and in alignment with government policies and strategies, in collaboration with other nutrition stakeholders.
• Plan and conduct field supportive visits, and support field missions for show casing the impact of the WFP’s work to programme visitors.
• Lead CFRM, disability inclusion, and focal point for Gender Age Marker.
• Perform any other tasks as required in the context of the overall WFP operations, including emergency preparedness and response.
STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: Advanced University degree in human nutrition and/or public health nutrition or related subject
WORK EXPERIENCE: At least five (5) years of relevant work experience with managerial responsibilities in Food Security, Nutrition Security and/or related fields possibly with a UN organization, or international development organization.
LANGUAGE : Proficiency in both oral and written communication skills in English (Level C) and Bangla is required.
DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE
• Good understanding on the Nutrition situation in Bangladesh and the larger Cox’s Bazar operation.
• Capability and proactive in taking initiative to provide timely technical advice and independent ability to facilitate coordinated planning and subsequent follow-up on implementation and reporting.
• Action management and results orientation.
• Identifies early warning indicators and reacts on them.
• Strong capability to manage and collaborate across different organizational units.
• Proven capacity to coordinate and communicate with Government officials and cooperating partners, and other internal units.
• Strong interpersonal/behavioral skills that foster team cohesion.
• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse teams in a fast-paced environment.
• Calm, with excellent behavioral attributes that foster team cohesion and approachability.• Has gained experience in implementing technical programs (i.e. nutrition, etc.).
