The WFP Regional Bureau for Eastern Africa (RBN) is based in Nairobi and provides strategic direction, technical guidance, resource mobilization, and management support to WFP operations and activities in ten countries: Burundi, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, and Uganda.

JOB PURPOSE

WFP operates over 1,000 heavy commercial trucks of different configurations, trailers and workshop facilities throughout 28 Country Offices (COs). Most of these trucks are based in the RBN region. The Logistics Global Fleet currently have the following 3 active support projects that require additional temporary resource:
– Fleet Leasing,
– Fleet Waste Recycling
– Bulk Fuel Management

Working under the direct supervision of the Fleet Consultant leading these Projects, the intern will be provided with close mentoring, guidance and technical supervision. Additional support will be provided by the GF Projects Manager based in Rome.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled in the university and have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies; or have graduated from an undergraduate or graduate programme within the last 6 months, preferably inTransport, Supply Chain, Logistics, Mechanical Engineering or related fields. or
  • Currently enrolled in a graduate programme (Master’s degree) from a recognized university, undertaking the programmes mentioned above, and have attended classes in the past 12 months,
  • Fluent in English (both oral and written) is a must; knowledge of a second UN language, preferably French, would be an asset.
  • Training and/or experience utilizing computers including word processing, spreadsheet, and other software packages. Proficiency in Excel and fair knowledge of pivot tables. Office 365 proficiency an added advantage

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  1. Updating and increased detailing of the sub-contracted transporters listings for countries where Fleet activities are required,
  2. Profiling suitable transporter fleets in RBN countries for potential leasing utilizing the specifications provided,
  3. Identifying and detailing compliant waste recyclers in each of the countries where Fleet has presence – to ensure old parts such as tyres, batteries, oil and scrap are disposed in a manner conforming to the required standards,
  4. Detailing Bulk Fuel management processes & procedures, to support development of a global standard practice with generic SOPs established for operations to apply in countries as required,
  5. Detailed listing of Fuel systems, equipment and processes by country, supporting a global review of bulk fuel operations,
  6. Other Global Fleet Projects support as required

  • Driving licence an added benefit
  • Experience in Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) transport or Supply Chain in a multi-national organization is an advantage

  • Depending on opportunities and availability of funds, he/she may participate in WFP workshops or seminars, as appropriate.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP depending on the duty station of assignment (i.e. Nairobi).
  • This position is not remote and will be based in Nairobi, Kenya for the entirety of the contract.
  • WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, necessary visas and related costs.
  • WFP will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognised institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education.
  • The internship duration is 8 months, full-time.
