Environment and Safety Director

Job Summary:

The Environment and Safety Director will develop, coordinate, and implement ES policies and procedures to promote and ensure effective safety operations in the company. Coordinate and lead site Environmental and Safety inspections, audits, assessments and industrial hygiene surveys to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and best practices, as well as established corporate procedures and requirements, review all incident investigations and reports.

Executive & Technical Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Collaborating with management to develop, prepare, and implement ES policies and procedures.
  • Developing and implementing workplace safety policies and` procedures in accordance with OSHA standards, reviewing them to ensure they are up to date.
  • Providing personnel with safety-related information such as emergency protocols and proper use of safety equipment.
  • Establishing company-wide OSHA compliant safety training programs and conducts employee training on applicable safety standards.
  • Verifying appropriate personal protective equipment PPE, being used properly.
  • Overseeing the company's daily operations and identifying opportunities for improvement of safety regulations.
  • Conducting risk assessments to minimize workplace accidents, occupational illnesses or long-term health hazards.
  • Ensuring compliance with Jordanian and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules.
  • Ensuring completion of required OSHA recordkeeping and reporting.
  • Providing technical and administrative support to the safety committee.
  • In coordination with Production people; Stops operations and activities that could harm employees or equipment.
  • Focusing on achieving the highest levels of ES performance through behavior-base initiatives, auditing, physically inspecting all work areas, mentoring and expeditiously implementing change.
  • Establishing, implementing and enforcing environmental policies to meet TCEQ and EPA's standards.
  • Implementing initiatives to support effective injury/illness case management, return-to-work programs, and investigation and management of ES relate cases.
  • Creating initiatives to reduce and prevent accidents on site, aiming to achieve world-class incident rate and reviews accident and incident reports.
  • Keeping VP-Operations and other concerned APC Directors informed of department activities by preparing and presenting a weekly ES Report.
  • Ensuring ES Directorate compliance with environmental and safety standards by administering related company policies, regulations, OSHA and ISO procedures.
  • Ensuring that material safety data sheets are maintained and readily accessible when needed.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

General Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Conducts periodic meetings with subordinates to follow up smooth running of activities and keeping abreast with the latest business-related practices.
  • Prepares periodic reports with respect to the ES activities and achievements to be submitted to the management.
  • Identifies human resources requirements for ES according to human resources planning practices.
  • Ensures that clerical staff maintain the OSHA safety log and other administrative requirements related to safety operations and regulations.
  • Collaborates with management to plan and implement a safety protocol budget.
  • Recommends training needs of subordinates and evaluates the outcomes of training courses in coordination with the Personnel Affairs Division.
  • Conducts performance appraisals for subordinates according to the scheduled plans and recommends necessary actions as per the adopted procedures.
  • Follows-up on subordinates’ administrative affairs such as: vacations, leaves …etc.
  • Assigns a deputy to carry out the responsibilities of the position whenever the need arises.
  • Conducts Weekly Safety Meetings with his subordinates.

Skills

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health and Safety, Safety Engineering, Environmental Health, or related field required. Master degree is desirable.
  • At least (15) years of Environment and Safety experience in an industrial environment.
  • At least 5 years’ experience as an Environment and Safety Manager or director.
  • A certificate in Environment and Safety management.
  • Excellent knowledge of OSHA standards.
  • Solid knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices in the workplace.
  • Familiarity with writing Environment and safety policies and procedures.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of current company safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
  • Excellent in English language.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to conduct training.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Proficiency in conducting data analysis and reporting statistics.
