THE ROLE AND ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT
The position is based in the WFP Headquarters and reports to the Deputy Executive Director for Workplace Culture. The position directly contributes to creating a workplace where all people are valued and able to meet their fullest potential – enabling WFP to deliver on its mission. This includes a more strategic approach to diversity, equity, and inclusion under the umbrella of the WFP People Policy, and to creating a safe and inclusive workplace culture rooted in WFP’s five core values: integrity, collaboration, commitment, humanity, and inclusion.
JOB PURPOSE
To lead the organization’s Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) work on all dimensions, including racial equity and anti-racism, gender equality, disability inclusion, and every D&I dimension to uphold WFP commitment of ensuring an inclusive and respectful work culture in line with WFP’s mission, vision, and core values.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)
You will:
- Provide strategic direction and leadership for the area of D&I and oversee the development of D&I policies, norms, strategies, and guidance in line with WFP and wider UN strategies.
- Formulate, manage, and oversee change processes related to the implementation of D&I policies, norms and strategies and innovations.
- Demonstrate ownership, promote, and deploy WFP global D&I initiatives and strategies. and position these efforts within the strategic planning and thinking of WFP.
- Ensure that guidance and support is provided to Country Offices, Regional Bureaux and HQ Divisions regarding the development of D&I initiatives to achieve targeted outcomes.
- Promote the integration of country and regional perspectives, into the D&I strategies in close collaboration with Country Directors and Regional Directors.
- Lead efforts to develop accountability and metrics for monitoring and communicating progress and effectiveness of programs fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce culture.
- Lead the development and coordination of consistent and impactful organization-wide communication of workforce inclusion and diversity, partnering with the Communications and Advocacy Division to develop the most effective approach.
- Partner with the Human Resources and Staff Wellness divisions to integrate D&I principles and best practices across all people management and staff wellness policies and processes to enable equitable and sustainable methodologies.
- In collaboration with HR, lead efforts to design and institutionalize learning and development initiatives to strengthen diversity and inclusion, including without limitation racial equity and gender equality, in the workplace.
- Identify and build productive relationships with a broad range of internal and external partners at the global level to promote WFP corporate strategies, transfer of knowledge and expertise, technological advancement and attract support for WFP activities.
- Coordinate the work of the organization on diversity, equity, and inclusion, working closely with other UN organizations, funds and programmes and strengthen partnerships with these entities and position WFP as a leader in this area.
- Oversee WFP workforce reports for UN-wide efforts on D&I, such as for example UNSWAP (Gender) and UN Disability Inclusion.
- Hold accountability for transparent and efficient people management standards, guidance and processes within the D&I team that enable the implementation of best practice and ensuring optimal use of resources.
- Ensure the best use of financial resources for achievement of set objectives.
- Lead to ensure that evaluation, audit, and compliance recommendations related to D&I policies and standards are efficiently implemented.
- Accountable for an equitable and inclusive workplace which incorporates all dimensions of the WFP D&I framework.

QUALIFICATIONS AND KEY REQUIREMENTS
Education:
You have:
- Advanced University degree in Human Resources Management, Business Management, Psychology, Gender Studies, or Development Studies, ideally with specialization in gender, equity and/or human rights.
Experience:
You have:
- Thirteen years or more (of which six international) of senior level experience in carrying out D&I implementation in a complex international organization and/or large global corporation with a diverse and global footprint, with a strong interest, if not a background, in international humanitarian development.;
- Extensive experience leading multicultural teams and improving performance;
- Proven leadership skills in leading organizational development and implementation of D&I, racial equity, and/or gender equality strategies;
- Experience in anti-racism strategy, policy and programs;
- Technical working knowledge in the fields of gender, equity, human rights in relation to health and diversity, equity, and inclusion corporate functions.
Language:
You have:
- Fluency (level C) in the English language.
- Intermediate knowledge (level B) of a second official UN language: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish, and/or WFP’s working language, Portuguese.

Different expectations of behaviour are defined depending on your grade and role/responsibilities within WFP.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Mobility is and continues to be a core contractual requirement in WFP. This position is however classified as “non-rotational” which means the incumbent shall not be subject to the regular reassignment process unless the position is reclassified as rotational. The selected candidate will be employed on a fixed-term contract with a probationary period of one year. This position is open to both internal and external candidates.
WFP offers an attractive compensation and benefits package in line with ICSC standards (http://icsc.un.org) including basic salary, post adjustment, relocation entitlement, visa, travel and shipment allowances, 30 days’ annual leave, home leave, an education grant for dependent children, a pension plan, and medical insurance.
The selected candidate will be required to relocate to Rome, Italy to take up this assignment.
