Location: Amman/Jordan

Contract: 12 months (potential extension based on funds available and work performance)

Salary: According to CDE’s internal salary grid

Position within the Organization: Reports to Senior PSS Officer

Description of the organization:

La Chaîne de l’Espoir (CDE) is a French non-profit organization founded in 1994. It’s an independent and impartial international aid organization working in poverty and exclusion, conflict, and disaster situations. CDE is a network of medical and surgical expertise. A key player in healthcare, CDE is committed to providing medical treatment and education to the children who need it the most. its mission is to strengthen healthcare systems and provide to everyone, especially children, equal chances and opportunities for survival and development.

Program in Jordan

CDE has been active in Jordan since 2012, carrying out orthopedic and cardiac missions for vulnerable children and refugees in need of lifesaving, life-changing surgery, and specialized care. Since 2018, CDE’s mission in Jordan has included in its program strategy the inclusion of PSS activities to ensure a holistic approach for the patients and their relatives.

Within the frame of its program development in Jordan, La Chaîne de l’Espoir is looking for a Psychosocial Support Assistant.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under the management of the senior psychosocial support Officer, the Psychosocial support assistant will ensure the mental health and wellbeing of patients and their families throughout the healthcare pathway provided by CDE.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Patient and family care

  • Provide mental health assessments and counseling to patients and families.
  • Support families and patients in their specific needs related to their situation and medical condition.
  • Promote resilience of children and families within the CDE prevue.
  • Assist in the development of health and PSS components in CDE’s surgical project.
  • Assist in the referral pathway for patients requiring further PPS support.
  • Assist in Creating a child-friendly and child-centered environment throughout the healthcare pathway provided by CDE (consultations, hospitalization, post-operative follow-up…).
  • Contribute to spreading awareness on sensitive topics (family planning, consanguinity…) within patients’ families
  • Help in the referral process for patients and families with specific needs.

Follow-up and reporting

  • Regularly documents and communicates challenges, lessons learned, and best practices;
  • Regularly assesses and provides feedback and recommendations on the quality of the psychosocial support;
  • Pro-actively suggest positive stories to the PSS senior Officer, upon the consent of the patient;
  • Documents cases and ensures the appropriate update of the relevant databases;
  • Provides analysis and statistics of the findings;
  • Notifies the PSS senior Officer of any issue related to the patients or healthcare pathway;

Other

  • Ensure confidentiality of data and information related to patients, their care, and family.
  • Support good relationship building between CDE staff, patients, and other contributors.
  • Keep CDE team informed on any issues related to the patients, healthcare pathway or any other issues.
  • Report any security, ethical or acceptance-related issues to his/her line manager.
  • Troubleshoot access or availability issues for patients.
  • Translate verbally and in writing when necessary.
  • Participate in team meetings or any other relevant internal and external meetings.
  • Perform any other additional duties upon the instruction given by his/her line manager or technical referent whenever applicable.

TEAM RELATIONSHIP

The PSS assistance:

  • Is under the direct supervision of the senior PSS officer in Jordan
  • Works closely with patients and families, along with CDE colleagues, hospital employees, and other paramedical staff

PROFILE – National position

Professional Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, psychiatry, social work, or related field
  • Specific training on mental health and psychosocial support for children and/or in humanitarian settings is a plus.

Required experience

  • At least 2 year of experience with similar responsibilities (preferred Health INGO NGO/Humanitarian sector experience.
  • Experience working with children.
  • Experience within the humanitarian sector is a plus.
  • Knowledge of protection-related issues.

  • Good writing and communication skills.
  • Good understanding of medical ethics and patient education.
  • Good commands of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power-point)
  • Maintains confidentiality of work.
  • Sense of teamwork in a multicultural context.

Languages

  • Fluent in Arabic (speaking, writing, reading).
  • Professional working knowledge of English.
