Job Introduction
BBC Arabic is the largest of the BBC’s forty language services providing multimedia content on BBC platforms and through social media to our Arabic speaking audiences in the Middle East, Gulf and across the world 24 hours per day, seven days a week.

This role will be reporting directly to the Amman Digital Assistant Editor.
This job will be based in the BBC Amman Bureau in Jordan and will be on local [Jordanian] terms and conditions of employment.
Working under the supervision of Editors and Senior Journalists, Journalists produce accurate, informed and interesting news and programming to the highest possible standards. The role demands creativity and flexibility, as well as a genuine passion for explaining the world to our audiences.
In addition, Journalists will increasingly be expected to work closely with the rest of the BBC, building relationships that will be mutually beneficial and which enable BBC Arabic to take a leading role in the overall BBC coverage of the Arab world.
Social Media Journalists will work to maintain and produce material for BBC Arabic main social media accounts as part of a core social media team.
Role Responsibility
- To inform and contribute to the production of high quality and compelling content including AV, images, text, features and blogs for publication across all BBC Arabic digital platforms. This includes BBC Arabic website, social media, and emerging platforms.
- To publish, moderate and cross-promote multimedia content to BBC Arabic’s main social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and others.
- To contribute to the generation and development of new ideas for content which can be realized using existing tools and resources; builds on good ideas from counterparts and other members of the team.
- To works as part of the social media team to ensure editorial content meets audience/user needs and is consistent with the agreed editorial style and tone.
- To use variety of tools and techniques to engage with BBC Arabic audiences on social media with the aim of maximizing reach and awareness of the BBC’s brand and output across different platforms.
- To monitor social media trends in the Middle East and North Africa region and to engage with influential social media users within.
- To work alone and as a part of a team to gather and verify news via social media platforms.
- To generate content from BBC Arabic users to be used on all platforms.
- To use social media effectively in order to spot the news as it breaks and to identify viral content.
- To work collaboratively with other departments in the BBC in the production of Interactivity & Social Media materials.
Are you the right candidate?
- Demonstrates an excellent knowledge of developments in social media and related areas.
- A clear understanding of the needs and profile of the target audience and the ability to translate these into imaginative and compelling content solutions, specifically with reference to social media.
- Ability to concentrate on several areas of work at one time, prioritizing, delivering consistently to deadlines and reacting positively to changes and conflicting priorities.
- Strong web and computer literacy. Knowledge of the media landscape and emerging technologies.
- Ability to publish material to social media platforms using modern standard Arabic.
- A good knowledge of English including complete comprehension of written and spoken English and the ability to communicate effectively.
- Relevant and proven experience in maintaining and producing materials for different platforms, including online and social media pages.
- The ability to follow the rapid technological developments in the field of UGC and social media and how to apply them.
- Knowledge of BBC Arabic target audience and their needs is essential.
- A demonstrable commitment to the BBC’s multimedia ambitions.
- The ability to work accurately and under pressure.
- Awareness of the growing importance of social media and the benefits and challenges it brings.
