WADI for Sustainable Ecosystems Development NGO – is a local NGO established in December 2018 under the Ministry of Environment. The vision of WADI is to advance water conservation and land stewardship practices to build resilient communities and healthy watersheds by actively engaging local communities in building shared ownership in science-based practices that foster land ethics, sustainable water conservation, and land stewardship and to create viable ecosystems by establishing soil and water conservation sites that serve as reference models for scaling watershed restoration techniques. In addition, WADI is a knowledge center for informed restoration decision-making that will lead to aquifer recharge and healthy ecosystems in Jordan

About the position:

WADI is seeking a professional individual for the position of “Communications Officer” to join its team.

This position will have a range of responsibilities, including the implementation of the communications plan which includes social media content management, website support, establishing relations with local and regional media, donor reporting, proposal writing, M&E, and supporting other team functions and duties as needed. The candidate will develop several written documents, including brochures, reports, and follow-ups on the project’s M&E indicators. In addition, the candidate must be an expert communicator across a variety of platforms, from the printed word to various social media to ensure WADI exposure and visibility among donors, partners, and other stakeholders. Fluency in both English and Arabic (written, read, and understood) is crucial for the successful candidate

  • In coordination with the executive director, update, design, and implement the communications and branding strategy.
  • Prepare and update materials for local community engagement and public awareness purposes.
  • Coordinate events, workshops, and meetings with different partners and stakeholders as needed.
  • Develop stories, communication messages, and project highlights to share with different audiences through a variety of mediums including websites, social media, videos, success stories, photos, etc.
  • Manage WADI's website including content development, coordination with the web developer, implementation, and regular updates.
  • Draft press releases to ensure sufficient press and media coverage for WADI activities.
  • Review the performance indicators and continuously update the M&E results and compare them with the set targets.
  • Assist in drafting technical reports in close coordination with the executive director and the technical team.
  • Establish a rapport with personnel of different media channels and social media influencers.
  • Assist in proposal writing and other fundraising duties.
  • Any other related tasks as requested by the executive director.

The Successful candidate must have:

  • A university degree in communications, or any other related field.
  • 3-6 years of experience, preferably in advocacy and communications with donors or NGOs.
  • Strong knowledge of various media channels (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc..).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe CC, and Social Media Management Apps.
  • Willingness to travel to the field as needed.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills in both English and Arabic.
  • Experience with proposal writing.
  • Strong knowledge of the Jordanian context.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent time management, organizational skills, flexibility, and strong attention to detail.
