Médecins Sans Frontières is running a reconstructive surgery program in Amman, which opened in 2006, is giving access to reconstructive surgery (orthopedic, plastic and maxilo-facial) to war wounded people providing comprehensive health cares, MSF aims at identifying and referring patients from neighboring countries (Iraq, Yemen, Syria, and other countries with conflicts) then ensuring their medical follow-up after discharge.

Médecins Sans Frontières Reconstructive Surgery program in Amman and is seeking a Part Time Specialized Plastic Surgeon.

DIMENSON OF THE PROJECT:

  • Reconstructive Surgery Hospital with in average 550 admissions per year,
  • over 1000 surgeries annually,
  • 72 surgical beds and 126 rehabilitation beds,
  • 2 OTs for orthopaedic, maxillo-facial and plastic surgeries,
  • OPD with in average 550 consultations / month
  • physiotherapy and psychosocial department, and a micro laboratory within the hospital

MAIN PURPOSE:

  • Organize and carry out surgery activities, ensure pre and post-operative surgical care, in accordance with MSF policies, protocols and universal hygiene standards and in close collaboration with medical staff in the emergency, surgical wards and operation theatre in order to improve patients’ health condition.
  • Repair, restore, or improve lost, injured, defective, or misshapen body parts using microsurgical technique as required.
  • Organize and carry out surgery activities in a Mission, taking into consideration MSF protocols and hygiene standards.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Coordinates the implementation of MSF clinical policies, tools, guidelines and protocols (antibiotic prophylaxis, post-operative pain management, thrombo-prophylaxis, blood trans-fusion, etc.) and recommendations (standard hygiene and sterilization rules…) in order to minimize clinical risks.
  • Undertake pre-operative consultations, evaluating the surgical risks with the anesthetist and/or other medical staff involved, and obtaining the patient’s signed consent to operate.
  • Carry out programmed surgical interventions (and very exceptionally emergency surgeries) following MSF protocols and policies, ensuring appropriate use of surgical equipment and proper OT registry entry/documentation of all OT intervention.
  • Carry out post-operative clinical care and ward rounds collaborating with the medical and nursing teams. Attend OPD, emergency room when required.
  • In collaboration with the anesthetist, carry-out the collection and analysis of quantitative surgical-anesthesia data, using post-operative observation sheets, routine data collected, patient files, operating department register, patient file, etc. to monitor quality. Monthly revue data and analyze clinical trends and comment on adverse events / poor clinical outcome. Support organizing the operating program and with OT staff monitor use of material and equipment and advise on instrument needs and coordinates patient referral.,

PROFILE:

  • Essential, diploma in surgical specialty-Plastic surgery recognized by the State.
  • Formal and recognized post graduate training in plastic surgery with board certification.
  • Registration with the Jordan Medical Association as Plastic Surgeon is required
  • Five years of professional experience in a similar position.
  • Experience in pain management protocols including neuropathic pain management is preferred
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Jordan.
  • Experience in working in a Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) & MSF desirable.
  • Demonstrates multi-cultural flexibility.
  • Proven communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Written and verbal fluency in English and Arabic is required.

WORK LOCATION: Amman – Al Mowasah Hospital.

CONTRACT: Fixed term contract – Part time with 50% activity rate.

Probable start date: February 2023
