The Opportunity
Abt Associates seeks a qualified Capacity Strengthening Specialist for the Local Health System Sustainability Project’s Jordan Activity (LHSS Jordan). The LHSS Project is USAID’s flagship initiative in integrated health systems strengthening, with a goal to help low- and middle- income countries transition to sustainable, self-financed health systems to support universal health coverage. LHSS Jordan is supporting the Government of Jordan’s (GOJ) efforts to improve health care professionals’ competencies to deliver quality health services through the institutionalization of a mandatory continuing professional development (CPD) system for professional license renewal. The Activity is also working with the Ministry of Health (MOH) and private sector on strengthening the Jordanian post COVID-19 resilience activities, including strengthening the laboratory sector.
This is a full-time position based in Amman, Jordan, working under the supervision of the Activity’s Senior Continuous Professional Development Advisor.
Core Responsibilities
- Provide technical support to a grant activity which will provide a grant to train CPD focal points in health facilities and health directorates in the governorates through strengthening their skills to support the implementation of CPD.
- Support health care providers to understand their CPD for relicensing responsibilities, assessing training needs and establishing training plans for facilities.
- Provide technical oversight to the grantee, deliverables, including reporting requirements, to ensure they are of quality, within the grant agreement, and in alignment with the Ministry of Health’s requirements.
- Attend all grantee and MOH meetings.
- Provide technical support to a grant activity which to develop a cadre of certified professional trainers to and train health care providers on CPD approved materials.
- Provide technical support to a grant to develop online and upload 17 CPD accredited online courses on the MOH website on topics such as MCH, FP and laboratory practices.
- Review the uptake of online courses provided by LHSS and develop periodic reports.
- Support the CPD Advisor in various capacity strengthening activities, including for example, working to strengthen the capacity of the three councils as they prepare to execute CPD activities and supporting the MOH as they implement their grant agreement with USAID on CPD.
- Maintain all files in the LHSS shared drive related to activities.
- Any other tasks relevant as assigned by the supervisor.
What We Value
- Bachelor’s Degree + 9 years of relevant experience, or master’s Degree + 7 years of relevant experience, or PhD + 4 years of relevant experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources management or any related field. Master’s degree is preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in capacity strengthening or capacity building activities (this should include organizational capacity technical assistance and not be ONLY training).
- A demonstrated track record in providing human resource development and organizational development.
- Experience with USAID-funded programs is preferable.
- Capacity to provide high quality reports in a professional and timely manner.
- Excellent English writing/speaking skills required and fluency in Arabic preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and training skills.
