JOB PURPOSE
To provide efficient and safe transportation to senior WFP staff, high ranking UN officials or visitors, and/or provide support in coordinating transport-related services.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)
Under the overall supervision by the Head of Area Office and direct supervision by Business Support Assistant-Admin in Loikaw, the incumbent will perform the following duties:-
- Drive assigned means of transport for the transport of authorized WFP staff member, visitors, goods, messages, mail, etc;
- Drives WFP staff and official visitors to/from the country/regional office as per authorized routing and as per UN safety and security rules and regulations;
- Collect and deliver goods, mail, documents, and other items;
- Meet official personnel at the airport and facilitate immigration and customs formalities as required;
- Take care of the day-today maintenance of the assigned means of transport, check oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc; perform minor repairs and arrange for other repairs and ensure that the vehicle is kept clean;
- Log official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing, etc;
- Read and understand specific vehicle/vessel operating manual to ensure the safe and appropriate operations of the vehicle;
- Negotiate, liaise and coordinate with local authorities to facilitate smooth running of vehicle/vessel movements in the designated area;
- Ensure that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in an accident;
- Where appropriate, schedule drivers and vehicles/vessels for use on a daily basis;
- Check means of transport for mechanical fitness and the security of the cargo, ensuring that cargo is protected against all weather conditions;
- Produce weekly records of mileage travelled and tonnage moved;
- Check log books of the WFP vehicles/vessels for completeness of record;
- Identify any apparent problems during field deliveries and report them to the appropriate personnel;
- Perform other related duties as required.
STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Completion of secondary school education. Formal drivers training with a valid driver’s license/certification to operate assigned vehicle following local rules and regulations.
Experience: Two or more years of work experience as a Driver, preferably in an international organization, embassy or UN system with a demonstrated safe driving record.
Knowledge & Skills:
• Knowledge of driving rules and regulations, local roads/waterways and conditions, and security issues.
• Knowledge and ability to use radio, email, telephone and other applications.
• Ability to assess vehicles for mechanical fitness and skills in minor vehicle repairs.
Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in the UN language in use at the duty station and in the duty station's language, if different.
