Purpose:
The Sound Designer is a creative music composer who can create music and sounds, edit and manipulate existing sounds, search and apply appropriate music and sfx, record and optimise VOs, mix, master, and deliver high quality audio files according to the department’s needs.
Working closely with the Creative Team members, the Sound designer is responsible for creating and adapting audio to video from the pre-production stage up until delivery.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
- Create music and sounds according to briefs and projects requirements.
- Edit and manipulate existing or created sounds to best portray the video style intended by the producer of the video.
- Choose and apply appropriate audio assets for videos produced by the department teams.
- Record and optimize VOs.
- Guide sound engineers, directors, composers, musicians, presenters, and voice over artists for better quality recordings.
- Mix, master, export, and deliver audio files to the highest standards.
- Assist with the maintenance of the sound equipment as necessary.
- Identify the audio requirements for each project.
- Develop and standardize the optimum sound configurations using the hardware and software in place.
- Ensure consistency of audio quality output for all department productions.
- Supervise, train and provide all necessary support to freelance aaudio operators and junior audio staff.
- Advise on best setups and configurations for best audio quality productions.
- Excellent sound design skills and techniques.

Skills:
- Excellent sound design skills and techniques.
- Highly knowledgeable and experienced with professional audio hardware’s and software’s like ProTools and Logic.
- Fair experience with Adobe Premiere and Adobe Audition.
- Excellent understanding of broadcast technical standards.
- Excellent understanding of audio mastering.
- Excellent ability of understanding briefs and meeting its requirements.
- An excellent ear for details.
- An excellent team player.
- Excellent organisational, communication, time management, and problem solving skills.
- High capability of juggling the work of multiple projects simultaneously.
- High capability of working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Familiar with Ofcom guidelines with respect to Audio & RF.
- Excellent understanding of Arabic language.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Degree or similar industry qualification in Audio Technology related field
- Industry experience as a Sound Designer within a live News production environment
- 5-10 years’ experience in a live broadcast environment.
