As the official representation of Switzerland accredited both in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Republic of Iraq, the Embassy covers all matters concerning diplomatic relations between the two countries. It represents Swiss interests in the areas of political, economic and financial affairs, humanitarian aid, development cooperation, legal arrangements, science, education and culture.
Project Manager – 100 %
The Embassy of Switzerland in Jordan is looking for a Project Manager to reinforce its Disaster Risk Reduction / Water Team, with a focus on flood mapping. Switzerland has agreed to support the Government in the establishment of a national flood mapping program and the development of national flood risk and flood hazard maps.
Flood mapping is technical but also requires the collaboration of multiple stakeholders towards the same objective. Therefore excellent communication, coordination and networking skills are key for this position.
Duties & Responsibilities
The Project Manager is working as a local employee of the Embassy team under the overall guidance of the Regional Advisor Water and Sanitation. The list of tasks includes the following:
- Create and maintain a network with actors working on DRR in Jordan;
- Coordinate and facilitate the communication and collaboration between all stakeholders proactively including the Swiss Federal Office on Environment;
- Assist to the organization, and attend the meetings of the steering committee;
- Coordinate and plan the support of Swiss and other experts;
- Plan, organize and facilitate meetings, trainings and workshops providing technical assistance according to the project’s planning;
- Monitor the work progress of the technical unit (unit is producing the maps) and provide support when needed.
- Report proactively to the Regional Advisor Water and Sanitation on all relevant information;
- Contribute to the further development of the project and elaborate documents for internal approval upon request of the Regional Advisor Water and Sanitation;
- Contribute to the project reports in collaboration with the Regional Advisor Water and Sanitation;
Profile & Requirements
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in Arabic and English;
- Minimum of 10-years experience in international cooperation or related field;
- University degree in Hydrology, Hydraulics, Water / Environmental Engineering or other relevant degrees;
- Profound experience in networking and stakeholder coordination;
- Good knowledge of the mandates and working modalities of the various stakeholders involved in DRR in Jordan (Ministries, donors, implementing agencies, etc.);
- Good knowledge of the political, economic and social situations of Jordan;
- Working knowledge of DRR, risk and/or flood hazard mapping and GIS;
- Knowledge of hydraulic modelling is an asset;
- Solid computer skills (MS Office);
- Good experience in project management including related administrative work;
- Team player and service orientation;
- Able to work under pressure and to embrace challenges;
- Willingness to take responsibility, ability to work autonomously.
