Job Summary:

Clinical Psychologist with Women’s Mental Health Focus

Under general supervision, provides psychological assessment, diagnosis and individual, group, and family therapy, case management services, referral, and follow-up to acute, chronic, or moderately disturbed mentally ill clients and/or patients, and consultation with outside facilities and/or agencies.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Instruct interns or residents in diagnosis and treatment of psychological conditions.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Diagnoses or evaluates mental and emotional disorders of individuals and administers programs of treatment; interviews patients in clinics, hospitals, and other settings and studies medical and social case histories.
Observes patients in various situations; selects, administers, and interprets intelligence, personality, or other psychological tests to diagnose disorders and formulate plans of treatment, and provides consultation to other mental health professionals with regard to test results.
Treats psychological disorders to effect improved adjustments utilizing various psychological techniques; selects appropriate treatment approach and plans frequency, intensity, and duration of individual, group, and family therapies.
Assesses patient progress and modifies treatment programs accordingly; communicates with and counsels family members as appropriate.
Documents therapy in accordance with policies and procedures regarding medical records; implements and adheres to policies which ensure patient confidentiality.
Provides crisis intervention in situations requiring immediate psychological treatment.
Participates in educational programs, in-service meetings, clinician meetings, and workshops to enhance professional development and maintain currency of methodology and techniques.
May instruct and direct students serving psychological internships in hospitals and clinics.
Provides psychological consultations to other mental health professionals within hospitals, clinics, and other community-based agencies with regard to clients and/or patient care.
May develop and implement clinical research programs.

Required Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge of medicine and specific concepts related to Women’s Mental Health.

Education and Experience:

Graduation with an approved/recognized Doctorate Degree in Clinical Psychology is required.
Graduate course work and supervised experience in the assessment, diagnosis, functional analysis and treatment of Women and their families with intellectual disabilities, autism, psychosocial delays, communication difficulties and mental health issues is required.
Previous experience supervising Doctoral level residents is preferred.
Exhibited strong communication, program development and evaluation skills.
Possessed strong leadership and supervisory skills that are focused on engaging others and developing coalitions.
Demonstrated ability to provide strong and comprehensive clinical support, training and mentorship to Clinical Psychologists II's and other supervisees.
Possessed strong analytical, critical reasoning, collaboration, problem solving, decision-making and organizational skills.
Licensed (or eligible) to Practice Medicine in the State of Kuwait.

Subspecialties Accepted:

PMS and PMDD

Premenstrual syndrome (PMS),
Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD)
Counselling for pharmacologic treatment for more severe PMS and PMDD include selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), hormonal interventions such as oral contraceptives (OCPs) and gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists.

Psychiatric Disorders During Pregnancy

Counselling regarding the risks of prenatal exposure to psychotropic medications and recommendations regarding the treatment of psychiatric disorders during pregnancy.
Counselling regarding the initiation or maintenance of treatment during pregnancy, the risks associated with fetal exposure to a particular medication, consideration for the risks associated with untreated psychiatric illness in the mother.

Breastfeeding and Psychiatric Medication

Counselling regarding nutritional, immunologic and psychological benefits of breastfeeding for healthy women
Counselling regarding psychiatric illness/pharmacological treatment during the postpartum period especially while nursing.

Postpartum Psychiatric Disorders

Postpartum psychiatric illness:
postpartum blues,
postpartum depression,
postpartum psychosis.

Fertility & Mental Health

Counselling for Infertility for a spectrum of emotional consequences including anger, depression, anxiety, marital problems, sexual dysfunction, and social isolation and depression
Psychological symptoms may interfere with fertility, success of infertility treatment, and the ability to tolerate ongoing treatment, interest in addressing these issues during infertility treatment has grown.

Menopausal Symptoms

Counselling for symptoms commonly observed during the menopausal transition including depression, anxiety, insomnia, memory problems, and sexual dysfunction.
Counselling for Hormone therapy in the estrogen-deficient state, including osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease and other treatment options, including antidepressants, are being considered to provide relief for menopausal symptoms.
