The Program / Department / Team
Since 2003, Mercy Corps Jordan has worked to meet the urgent needs of vulnerable populations, build cohesive and civically engaged communities, and increase inclusive economic opportunities. From providing psychosocial support to helping entrepreneurs grow their businesses, we ensure solutions are community-led and market-driven. Throughout, we focus on youth, gender equality, good governance, natural resource management, and technological solutions, reflecting our belief that progress on these fronts is critical to building a more prosperous and equitable Jordan. The HR team supports the Jordan country office with a team of around 200 team members.
The Position
The HR Assistant will support Mercy Corps’ programs in Jordan by providing assistance to the HR team, in close coordination with the Finance Department and other administrative and program members based in Amman.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Recruitment and Onboarding:
- Responsible for scheduling interviews and technical tests for all positions according to the HR procedures.
- Review applications, shortlist, participate in the interview process, and provide recommendations.
- Support in conducting reference checks for selected candidates.
- Prepare the job file and offer letters to the selected candidates.
- Support in handing out the onboarding booklet and documents to MCJ’s new team members and ensuring the process is entirely completed and smooth.
- Assist in the onboarding process and coordination of the orientation of the national team members.
- Support the HR Sr. Officer with conducting the HR orientation to new national team members.
Performance Appraisals:
- Assist with performance management procedures.
- Follow up and track performance appraisal forms submission with supervisors and team members.
- Monitor and track probationary period reviews and submissions with supervisors and team members.
- Review submitted objectives and provide recommendations.
Administrative:
- Responsible for filing and reviewing all team members’ personnel files upon arrival.
- Update the leaves tracker on monthly basis.
- Send out beginning vacation and sick leave balances to all team members at the beginning of every month.
- Travel to any field project’s location for follow-up and feedback.
- Participate in external meetings.
- External representation of the HR department (Mercy Corps workplace.)
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Supervisor.

Accountability
Reports Directly to Senior HR Officer
Works Directly with Finance, Logistics, Procurement, compliance, DM&E, as well as team members of other programs implemented in Jordan.
Accountability to Participants and Stakeholders
Mercy Corps team members are expected to support all efforts toward accountability, specifically to our program participants, community partners, and other stakeholders, and to international standards guiding international relief and development work. We are committed to actively engaging communities as equal partners in the design, monitoring, and evaluation of our field projects.
Minimum Qualification & Transferable Skills
- University Degree in management, administration, or related fields.
- A minimum of one year of HR experience and INGO is a plus.
- Exposure to labor law and employment regulations.
- Strong follow-up, organizational, and prioritization skills are necessary.
- Accuracy and attention to detail are necessary.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English and Arabic.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel and Word.

Living Conditions / Environmental Conditions
The position is based in Amman, Jordan, or other Middle East Mercy Corps locations and it requires up to 40% travel to support country programs, which may include travel to insecure locations where freedom of movement is limited and areas where amenities are limited. Housing for this role is in individual housing staff will have access to good medical services and the living situation is of a high standard.
